It's time to vote for the 2023 UK Tree of the Year

00:08 So the voting has just opened for the Woodland Trust's 2023 UK Tree of the Year competition.

00:13 There is a great host of 13 finalists from London to Yorkshire through to Belfast.

00:19 Now the focus this year is on urban trees, so the trees that are in our neighbourhoods,

00:25 in our communities, and are very often the oldest residents of these places.

00:29 So there are some really great urban trees around the UK, like the Checkside Plain Tree

00:33 up behind me there, which is such a real feature of the area that they're in.

00:39 While the vote was open until October 15, the Woodland Trust is also running a Protect

00:45 Our Living Legends campaign.

00:46 They're inviting people to sign their petition to give these old trees, these trees that

00:51 are part of their neighbourhoods, legal protection to make sure that they're protected, that

00:55 they're around for future generations to enjoy as well.
