Hi my name is Roddy, I'm the Senior Development Manager at Trees for Cities and we're delighted
00:10
to be here launching our Tree Equity for Hartlepool project with the council today.
00:14
Trees for Cities is the UK's only charity which focuses just on getting trees into urban areas
00:19
and we've been working with the council for about the last 12 months to pull this project together
00:23
and we're delighted to be starting a two-year initiative which will see trees planted, new
00:27
jobs created and multiple other partners coming together to make sure that it's a success.
00:32
We're going to be working with the community to make sure that they're involved and have the
00:35
opportunity to volunteer and we're very excited to be putting trees into Hartlepool, working with the
00:40
community and growing the urban forest across the town. Hi my name is Gary Allen, I am the Chair of
00:47
the Adults and Community Based Services at Hartlepool Borough Council. I'm here today at King George
00:52
the Fifth Field in Hartlepool where we are launching the Trees for Cities initiative across Hartlepool
00:58
where we are starting to plant many more trees across Hartlepool for the benefit of the community.
01:03
It's all part of a £175,000 initiative partnership with Trees for Cities, Hartlepool Borough Council
01:09
and other partners. We've secured £250,000 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to kick start this
01:16
project and we have been working with people of Hartlepool, the local community, to increase the
01:22
tree canopy across Hartlepool by about 10 hectares over the next few years which is really important
01:27
to the people of Hartlepool for their mental health, for their physical health, it's better for air quality
01:34
and it's just better for people's general well-being as well.
