Albanese campaigning in VIC as opinion polls swing in Labor’s favour

Peter Dutton may have backed down over his work from home policy, but Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has not stopped pursuing the issue. Labor is seeking to make it a focus on Day 10 of the election campaign.

00:00As the campaign enters its second week, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is in Melbourne

00:06for the second time since the election was called.

00:09We're currently in the outer suburban Melbourne suburb of McEwen.

00:13It's a Labor held marginal seat and the Prime Minister is talking to a family

00:18benefiting from flexible work from home arrangements.

00:21Now this photo opportunity is of course another opportunity for Labor to continue

00:26to pursue Peter Dutton over his back down on the Coalition's work from home

00:30and public servant policy.

00:32The Prime Minister has seized on this today, raising it even when not directly asked

00:36and is trying to get as much traction from it as possible.

00:39You know Peter Dutton can be really nasty.

00:42People have seen examples of that in past days.

00:46Really nasty. The truth is he should defend his own position.

00:51The ALP brand has suffered here in Victoria at a state level

00:54and Federal Labor is concerned it will be punished at the ballot box as a result.

00:58The Prime Minister also stood beside Premier Jacinta Allen earlier

01:02to talk up $2 billion in funding for the Sunshine train station in the safe seat of Fraser

01:07after facing questions about her absence at his events last week.

01:11He also carefully sidestepped questions about whether the Premier's popularity

01:15would be a drag on Federal Labor.

01:17But Anthony Albanese has additional momentum today

01:20with the latest news poll putting Labor ahead of the Coalition 52-48 after preferences.

01:26This is notable because this is the result that delivered Labor a majority government

01:30at the last election and now all the major online published polls have Labor

01:35either ahead of the Coalition or gaining ground

01:38which suggests a swing towards Labor for voters as we enter this second week of the campaign.
