00:00The economist stresses that the global economy is changing and it's time for
00:06this country to look at new markets. Professor Roger Hussain believes the
00:11tariffs should be a motivation to do better. He says he does not believe it is
00:16something draconian that would debilitate the Caribbean or the TT
00:22And that they take this tariff imposition as a means to clean up one of our domestic
00:29indigenous policies that are off and to see it as a signal that we need to look
00:36harder, smarter and more robust at the regional markets and at the South American
00:42markets and other markets. He notes that it is time to put serious focus on
00:48non-energy exports, service exports and agricultural exports. He tells the
00:54Morning Edition he heard the Prime Minister speaking about increasing
00:58forex earnings. I hope they are serious this time and they put a solid foot
01:03effort because this country in my humble technical opinion is in a terrible
01:08position when I use the index stock of reserves less external debt. Professor
01:13Hussain also weighs in on the government's plan to move forward with
01:17a drag on gas deal. I'm very hopeful that jargon gas deal would work out. It's
01:22a critical critical supply line that if we get it would help augment our stock
01:27or inflow of natural gas but as a practical economist I'm also saying to
01:34the Prime Minister whoever else may listen and nobody really listens that we
01:38need to work on non-energy exports. Nicola M Romany TV 6 News
