00:03Plans to redevelop a redundant pub into homes and build a new house on its car park have been

00:08approved despite public concerns about the site's proximity to a notorious traffic junction.

00:14Aurora Homes have been given the go-ahead to transform the Gate Inn

00:17on South Lawrence Road, North Wingfield. The proposal is to convert the former pub

00:22into two three-bedroom properties and construct one four-bedroom house.

00:26The Gate Inn sits beside the junction of Little Morton Road with St Lawrence Road

00:30and under the proposals a new access would be created onto Little Morton Road.

00:35However the council received a number of objections relating to road safety and the

00:39limited visibility for drivers with one describing the adjacent junction as one of the worst in the

00:44area. A Derbyshire school boy is gearing up for a trek to the summit of Africa's tallest peaks

00:51this summer as he raises funds for a charity tackling racism and social discrimination.

00:57Nine-year-old River Nonokobakas from Matlock will be digging deep and aiming high when he

01:01sets off to Morocco's Atlas Mountains in May. River has already scaled all of the UK's highest

01:07peaks and his father will be joining him and around the Peak District most weekends between

01:11now and May to build up their endurance. Helping with the motivation is a fundraising appeal that

01:16River has set up with the target of raising £1,000 for the charity Stop Hate UK. The charity

01:22works to promote a more inclusive society by tackling all forms of hate crime and discrimination,
