Love Your Neighbourhood: We Meet the People of Wellington

00:00What do I like about Wellington? I like definitely the sense of community that's growing here.

00:07I like that there's been a real investment and effort to have people just really think well of where they live.

00:17And that's one thing that we definitely care about is loving where you live.

00:20We've lived in London and all the trappings and all the stuff that goes with London,

00:24but coming here, just the opportunity to create something that's ours and welcome other people into it,

00:29that's really cool.

00:31I do like, it might seem like a bit of a weird thing to say, but having lived where we've lived,

00:36the parking situation is pretty good.

00:39I really appreciate that. I rarely need to think about, oh gosh, can I park here?

00:44I'm going to get a ticket. All that headache that you get when you live somewhere that's a lot more congested.

00:49There isn't any of that here. People are always walking.

00:52There's so many beautiful places to go. There's so much greenery.

00:55And there is definitely a sense of just really great community.

00:59We've got fantastic support from other businesses.

01:02They really look out for each other and they really think about what ways can we get people to come into Wellington,

01:07what ways can we just get people to really, what's the word? Language is gone.

01:15Get people to just really nurture it and take care of it.

01:20It's not just a place to shop and spend money. It's a place to actually live and inhabit and grow and get to know people.

01:27It's handy for shopping and that's about all really now.

01:32I mean, you like to drink, don't you? You like to drink, don't you Steve?

01:36That's our son, by the way.

01:39I've got to go back for a drink.

01:42It's you, don't you?

01:47I didn't leave here, no. I'd only just come back. I left when I was 18 and came back.

01:52Houston, I've lived here all my life.

01:56You just come and get a drink. It's nice and warm.

01:59And sit and have a chat.

02:01Which again, you couldn't do before.

02:05My name's Mark. I'm from Aladdin's Cave, Wellington.

02:08Gosh, I've been here since 1975. I started coming here when I was eight.

02:12And I took it out, I think it was in 1986.

02:16Near last century.

02:18I've grown up here, actually. Only two miles away I was born.

02:22So I've always been around this area.

02:24Everybody knows me and I know everybody around here. It's just great.

02:28It's just a good, easy going place, isn't it?

02:30Nice people.
