00:00You went in to spring training thinking that your rotation was probably set.
00:24Maybe Kumar Rocker would make a run at it.
00:27People were complaining about John Gray.
00:29Like, can we make him a closer?
00:31We were at a point where we were like, we're pretty stacked, but now we're picking at our
00:34own starting rotation here.
00:36And instead, you walked away, and you talked about this earlier, with Mally, DeGrom, and
00:43Evaldi in two spots up for grabs.
00:46Now, popular thinking is that Leiter and Rocker will take those spots to start, within Corbin
00:52eventually once he is up to speed and has got his arm built up, taking one of those
00:58spots you have a left-handed presence in there.
01:00And I still think that is the way that it is likely to play out.
01:04But you've got to be more concerned about the rotation now than before, right?
01:09Because of those three pitchers who are going to pitch, you have DeGrom, who I hope he's
01:14fine.
01:15But obviously, notoriously, has had a bunch of arm issues.
01:17Tyler Mally missed, what, like a year and a half?
01:20And then he came back, had three starts, had to be shut down.
01:23We had a scare in spring training as well.
01:25And so the Rangers went a bold direction in building their rotation with people who have
01:31had injury concerns.
01:33And then when those players have injury concerns, you wonder about the depth.
01:37I wonder about the depth.
01:38Okay, so that's interesting the way you just said that.
01:41They built it on players with injury concerns.
01:44They did.
01:45Chris Young said, my job, I think a GM's job is to constantly think about the things that
01:54could go wrong.
01:56And prepare for the worst case scenario.
01:58It is weird that when you're saying that, you're signing guys that worst case scenario
02:02is probably going to play out more likely.
02:05But I do appreciate, because how often do we argue that the Cowboys don't think that
02:10way?
02:11They're like, no, no, they're going to put a star on their helmet and then they're going
02:13to be better.
02:14Magically get better.
02:15And with the Rangers, Chris Young is just like, I'm going to have to have a plan.
02:18I think that he's always kind of observing.
02:21They're always watching positions of need and trying to figure that out.
02:26We still probably have a lot of questions about the back end of the bullpen and what
02:32it's going to look like and how much we trust it.
