00:00This is the Geely Starray.

00:05This is a four-door, five-passenger luxury SUV from Geely,

00:09a Chinese car manufacturer, and it's mostly sold in China,

00:12but we find it in a few other markets around the world as well.

00:16If it were sold in the United States, it would sell for about $27,000.

00:19And you might be asking yourself, how can a $27,000 car be luxury?

00:24But it is.

00:25And that's the goal of Geely, is to deliver all the design details

00:29and all the features that define a luxury car,

00:33but at a very affordable price.

00:35How do they do that?

00:36Well, they build all these components themselves.

00:40Geely, you might know as the parent company of Volvo, Polestar and Lotus.

00:45And for those brands, which are luxury brands, Geely also builds

00:49all of the interior features and technology, including the touchscreens.

00:54A lot of the tech in those cars is pretty sophisticated.

00:56And if you can get your hands on a Geely, you can get all that tech

00:59at a much lower price.

01:01The Geely Star A is one of the cars that we've been able to drive

01:04as a part of the World Car Awards test drives here in Pasadena, California.

01:09And it's a real treat to get a close-up look at these Chinese cars

01:13that are really changing the automotive world.

01:16It's not available for sale in the United States,

01:18and it probably won't be due to trade policies.

01:21But if it was possible for Geely to sell this car in the United States,

01:25they would in a heartbeat.

01:27The interior of the Geely Star A is notable for some very modern design

01:32details, including this squircle style steering wheel.

01:36It's flat on the top mostly and flat on the bottom.

01:39The idea is to keep your line of vision uncluttered with a large driver display.

01:45So the driver display is set low and designed to be helpful,

01:49but not in your field of vision.

01:51There is a head up display here.

01:53That is a premium feature,

01:54and it's surprising to see that in a car at this price.

01:57There's ambient lighting that you can change the color.

02:00This ambient lighting continues over across the dashboard here

02:05and over onto the door panels.

02:09The center screen is very similar to the one that we see in Volvo and Polestar.

02:13Not quite as large, and it's not the modern one that we see in those cars,

02:17but it is large and it is vertical.

02:20And then we have a glass topped gear selector.

02:23It's hollow in the middle and it has this really beautiful, elegant glass top.

02:28And you'll even see a little graphic inside there.

02:31And then you just pull it back twice for drive.

02:34Push it forward for reverse and push that button for park.

02:40We took the Geely out for a nice long test drive.

02:43Really love the ambient light on the interior.

02:46Seats are really comfortable.

02:48We've actually gotten used to the Geely technology

02:50in the Volvos and Polestar models, so that was really comfortable.

02:54It was very easy to get in and figure everything out.

02:58Geely's done a beautiful job with this car at $27,000 US.

03:02That is an incredible deal for a car with this many great features

03:06and this kind of quality.
