00:00A farm worker was charged at the magistrate's court in Batu Pahat on Wednesday with the

00:04murder of a mother-of-three earlier this month.

00:08No plea was recorded from 29-year-old Muhammad Firdaus Bakhtahir as the case falls under

00:13the jurisdiction of the High Court.

00:16He is accused of causing the death of 31-year-old Shara Nurul Mastura Abdullah at a house in

00:22Kampung Baru, Srigading, at 5pm on March 8.

00:26The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty or imprisonment

00:33of 30 to 40 years, with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if not sentenced to death.

00:41Deputy Public Prosecutor Sharifa Natasha Syed Ahmad prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.

00:49Magistrate Arun Novaldas set April 24 for mention pending the forensic report.

00:55On March 11, Batu Pahat Police Chief ACP Shahrulanwar Mushaddad Abdullah Sani said

01:01investigations reclassified the case as murder after finding that a heated argument between

01:06the victim and suspect led to the fire.

01:10The victim suffered 74% burns and died the next day, while the suspect sustained 13.5%

01:17burns and was treated at Sultana Nora Ismail Hospital, HSNI.
