00:00A 51-year-old man was charged at the magistrate court in Johor Bahru for allegedly murdering

00:11his mother-in-law. The accused, Zuraidi Zakaria, only nodded his head when the charge was read

00:17to him in front of Magistrate Atifah Hazima Wahab on Wednesday. The accused allegedly

00:22murdered 79-year-old Ipa Daik at a house in Taman Sri Skudai on February 5 at 2.40pm.

00:30Police had arrested the accused and a 58-year-old woman. Initial investigations showed that several

00:36items belonging to the victim were missing and believed to have been taken by the suspects.

00:42The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries either the death

00:47sentence or a jail term of 30 to 40 years, and no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane if

00:53found guilty. No plea was recorded and no bail was offered. The court set April 28 for

00:59submission of the DNA report.
