00:00Cultural liaison Dr. Sasha John Charles-Baines shared with the media how the idea for the
00:06Cultural Extravaganza came about, emphasizing that the initiative seeks to promote cultural
00:11awareness in line with the Ministry of Education's cultural transformation policy.
00:16Her desire to do, engage in a cultural exchange and so the initial conceptualization, we wanted
00:25to partner with another school and because of logistics we decided to showcase the talents
00:32and habits first to Trinidad because it was the first time and we wanted to show how things
00:38would work out in terms of just organizing the event and this is where we are here today.
00:43Dr. John Charles-Baines stressed that while no school is without its challenges, students
00:48are eager to develop themselves.
00:50The Cultural Extravaganza offers them a valuable platform to showcase their talents and skills.
00:57I don't know if you saw them dancing the coco just a short while ago and of course we also
01:01have the PTA group, bring back the old time days and so just bringing the children back
01:06to just being children without you know digital influence is something that we really wanted
01:12to focus on.
01:13Over the years we have performed in several various productions, the students are involved
01:19in football and netball as well, they've won several prizes and so this Cultural Extravaganza
01:26is just another opportunity to showcase the students' talents and engage them in other
01:31positive aspects in which they can integrate themselves.
01:34Dr. John Charles-Baines also mentioned plans to extend the event, possibly even taking
01:39it to Tobago in the future.
01:41Meanwhile, Presiding Officer of the Tobago House of Assembly, Abbey Taylor, addressed
01:46the Assembly, stating that cultural transformation encompasses more than just music, dancing
01:52and food.
01:54It's about how people express themselves and it plays a key role in building communities.
01:59Culture, she added, bridges generational gaps and fosters a shared sense of purpose.
