Flakefleet landfill protest

Flakefleet Primary School pupils in Fleetwood made a protest video about the odorous emissions coming from a nearby landfill site

00:00Hello there, it's Richard Hunt here from the Blackpool Cassette.

00:03Now, Flake Fleet Primary School in Fleetwood first came to national attention back in 2019

00:09when they reached the final of Britain's Got Talent. They performed with the school choir

00:13a number of slightly chaotic songs aided and abetted by headteacher Dave McPartland.

00:19They made a real impact on the audience and also the judges with their very charming displays.

00:24They've also made a number of videos since then, released on their Facebook site,

00:29rather light-hearted videos which have just created a great deal of fun.

00:33But the latest video is a bit more serious. They've made a protest film

00:37about the landfill site nearby which has been causing a stink with residents

00:41with noxious fumes which have also had people worrying about the impact on their health.

00:47The pupils have also made a protest about it explaining why they want this to stop

00:52and how it's affected them. So let's take a look at their latest video.

01:27Can't play footy. You can't even get some fresh air.

01:30Because it makes you feel sick. It's disgusting.

01:34We've had it for months. Months? How is that fair?

01:38People keep saying something will be done. But nothing changes.

01:42You shouldn't have to put up with this. If this was in your own house, you'd sort it.

01:47The adults have been trying. They've complained.

01:50And they've shouted. But nothing's happened.

01:53So maybe, just maybe, if they weren't listening to the adults, maybe they'd listen to us.
