A chat with the first fired The Apprentice candidate - Emma Rothwell from Lancashire

00:00Firstly, how are you feeling to be leaving The Apprentice after the first week?

00:10I'm gutted. I'm absolutely devastated because I didn't get time to show what I could do.

00:15So obviously when you're in there, there's just so much going on and you're trying to

00:19find your feet. All these new people, there's new surroundings. I'm just a normal girl from

00:24Atherington. I've never done anything TV related before, so I was just kind of trying to find

00:30my feet. In the first episode, I am portrayed as being a bit quieter, but rest assured that

00:36is not me at all. I'm full of energy, always trying my best, always going for it, and yeah,

00:42I just genuinely feel like I was unlucky. It could have been any one of us.

00:46So do you think you were the right person to be fired?

00:50I'm going to obviously say no, because I think I should have gone a bit further.

00:55But no, I think obviously the cast failed because of the sales team not getting enough sales.

01:02So it had to be one of us because we all had the same responsibility for the overall team.

01:08But no, I just feel like I was unlucky. So basically when it came to final speech time,

01:12I didn't realise it was final speech time. And I went first, so I gave the representative,

01:18to be honest, and then they went to the other two and they like really stood out, gave really

01:22big answers and I was like, oh no. So if I could go back, that'd be the one thing that I would change

01:27because I do feel like if I'd have done that properly, I might still have been in there.

01:32You've already mentioned there your regret of the series then. Can I ask you what you were most proud of

01:36in the time you had on the show?

01:38Most proud of was even getting on. So people don't know this, but there's actually several rounds of intense

01:44rounds before you even get into that final line up. To get into the line up is just an amazing experience.

01:50It's a money can't buy opportunity. You have to earn your place and you have to be good at business,

01:54have your own business or have quite a lot of business action. So every single person who's made it

01:59into that line up deserves to be there. And we're just all so proud of ourselves for even getting there.

02:06And how overall did the show compare to your expectations of it?

02:13It wasn't 100% what I expected. Obviously, it was like the long days. There's a lot more filming that goes on.

02:21So for something that could take five minutes in that hour slot, that could have taken all day.

02:27And there's going to be parts that weren't shown or people will be like, oh, I didn't get to do this,

02:32but everybody has to do it a certain way in order to obviously make the show.

02:35And you're made very aware of that before you even go in.

02:39Is there a final lesson from the show that you're going to carry forward with you in your business ventures?

02:44Just to back myself and vocalise it more. So like going in, I did think I'm not a drama kind of girl.

02:52I'm just a normal person. So I was a bit apprehensive. Was I maybe too nice to the show?

02:57Could I not back myself enough? But yeah, just to back myself even more and obviously be more vocal in my abilities,

03:04which I know I can do. I just don't like people who are like so off it. So I don't want to necessarily be that.

03:10I just wanted to go on the show to basically show people that a normal person can do well in business,

03:16that they don't have to be nasty to be in business, that you can be a nice person and still be good at business.

03:22Yeah, definitely. So maybe a final question then. If Lord Sugar happens to be reading this article, do you have a final message to him?

03:30I do. Obviously, amazing to meet you. Thank you for the opportunity, like insane.

03:37But of course, I will be using this first firing as fuel in a few years.

03:44I'd love to have banged through, voted first off the offences, but now making a million. So fingers crossed that happens.
