Everyone likes a good throwback.

And it was just that recently as footballers from yesteryear came out for the final of the South Zone Intercol reunion.

And Vessigny Secondary were crowned champions after beating Princes Town on penalties at Mahaica Oval Point Fortin.

00:00Vesni taking on Princestown in green and white in the final of the South Intercol reunion
00:06match.
00:07The final of the 10-team competition took place at the Mahica Oval.
00:11Eldorado Secondary was the only team involved via invitation.
00:15Both teams boasted of players that graced the national team and participated at the
00:20club level, as seen here with footage and interviews done by CCN TV6's Rondell Renwick,
00:25who is also a goalkeeper and a coach.
00:28Organisers of the tournament, Libyan McGregor and former national player Andre Tuse, shed
00:33some light on the initiative.
00:34As you guys would know, we came here to Mahica Oval three years ago.
00:39Since then we have seen a significant increase in the players, teams.
00:44Actually this year we have a guest team that came from East Eldorado Senior Comprehensive.
00:48It's a family-oriented event.
00:51It's definitely centred around football, but I think the heart of it is the reunion aspect
00:56of it.
00:57It's people that you haven't seen in 10, 15, 20 years and it's always a welcoming
01:02feel to play with.
01:03And I feel people like Andre Tuse, Vijay Samaru, Kendall Nick Davis, Lee-Anne Poulis-Brung,
01:08players that were really, really awesome in our era.
01:11So that's pretty much it there.
01:13Well, the preparation was simple because most of us are friends with all the teams and the
01:19connection we have with most of the players from South and, well, as you see, we are guest
01:24teams.
01:26It's like brothers.
01:27We are like family.
01:28So the preparation wasn't all that.
01:29It's just that we have more people in the ground now preparing for the event because
01:36we live abroad.
01:38So to me, it was a little tough in certain places, but the preparation went through good.
01:44MP for Point 14, Kennedy Richard, shared his thoughts on the event.
01:47It's very refreshing to have something like this in Point 14, I'll tell you why.
01:52Point 14 has always been sport and culture, football in particular.
01:56You know about all the greats that have come from Point 14, you know about all the greats
02:00that have come from Mahika.
02:01And what I'm seeing here today is the entire Southwestern Peninsula, South, and all the
02:07inter-culture teams here represented.
02:09The respective teams were placed into two groups of five with the top team from each
02:12group qualifying for the finals.
02:15After full time, the score was nil-nil and it went to penalties.
02:19Goalkeeper Davidson Hector was on point for Vercini as he denied Princeton on two occasions.
02:24Former W Connection standout Andre Pacheco saw his attempt denied.
02:29Former national player Hewton Hector was on target though, and he put some confidence
02:33in the Vercini team as they went on to score all their remaining attempts.
02:37They would eventually win the final on penalties.
02:46Davidson Hector would get the Player of the Tournament award for his skills between the
02:50uprights as Vercini take the South Inter-Culture Reunion title.
