00:00MIC Deputy President M. Saravanan has withdrawn his challenge for a debate on Hinduism with
00:07independent preacher Zamri Vinod.
00:10During a press conference today, he said the decision was made after discussions with National
00:14Unity Minister Eran Agudagang and MIC President S. A. Vigneswaran.
00:20Saravanan said that his invitation for a debate was to defend Hinduism by correcting and educating
00:25Zamri regarding his views of Hinduism and that it would not have been a debate between
00:30religions.
00:31Yesterday, Eran expressed hope that the proposed debate between Saravanan and Zamri would be
00:50called off, saying debates focusing too much on religious differences could escalate tension
00:55and strain relationships among Malaysia's multi-religious communities.
00:59Nevertheless, Saravanan, the TAPA MP, urged the government to take action against Zamri
01:05to resolve the issue and advised the Indian community to lodge police reports against
01:09Zamri instead of taking the law into their own hands.
01:13Earlier today, DAP's R. S. N. Raiyar and URI MEI Chairman P. Ramasamy had doubled down
01:18on calls for police action against Zamri.
