Sunderland survive scare to beat Cardiff

00:00Sunderland maintained pressure on the three teams above them in the

00:03championship with a 2-1 victory over Cardiff City on Saturday. An early

00:08opener from Eliza Maienda was cancelled out by Cardiff's Isaac Davies before

00:12halftime but a late winner from Chris Mepham secured all three points.

00:18Yeah it was an important win today and I think we started well and probably our

00:23first 20 minutes were very good I think out of position and in position with a

00:29good rhythm a good pace after that we wasn't possible to maintain the level I

00:35don't know why exactly maybe because we were a little bit tired because of the

00:39opponent as well it's possible but we had this period between the beginning

00:44and the end we didn't manage this period properly but it's a good win at the end.

00:50Middlesbrough meanwhile were unable to continue their recent winning run as

00:55they lost 1-0 away at Swansea City. An impressive individual effort from Eom

00:59Jisung in the first half was enough to sink Borough on the day with Michael

01:03Carrick's side now five points adrift from the playoff places in the

01:08championship table. Yeah I didn't like it to be honest I didn't like it, that's

01:15not us, we didn't play well enough to get anything from the game we didn't

01:20start well give ourselves too much to do we finished strongish and looked like

01:25we there's a possibility of getting something from it but really today

01:29today wasn't wasn't what we want to look like. And in the National League

01:33Gateshead were beaten 3-1 by Aldershot Town despite taking an early lead

01:38against their opponents through Jack Rowles they were soon pegged back though

01:42and from then had no answer to Aldershot's advances with the home side

01:47scoring twice in the second half to put the game beyond Colmagne's side.

01:52Hartlepool meanwhile drew 1-1 with Eastleigh with Poole's goal being scored by

01:58Reyes Cleary. The home side then responded thanks to a strike from Tyreese

02:02Shade before the interval although Hartlepool did have chances to win the

02:07tie during the second half that were not taken including an effort that struck

02:11the crossbar.
