Emergency alerts are in place for the Gold Coast, Laidley and parts of Logan

Gold Coast residents are being urged to stay updated with emergency alerts after heavy rain triggered flash flooding across the city. Mackenzie Colahan reports.

00:00The Gold Coast beaches have copped an absolute battering over the last few days.

00:06You can see here the swell has eased, but that hasn't stopped all this erosion which

00:10is going to take months and months to recover.

00:13The main threat now here on the Gold Coast is this flooding rain.

00:16It's still coming down very heavily.

00:18Some parts of the city have received as much as a quarter of a metre in the last 24 hours

00:23and that has prompted a number of emergency alerts to be issued.

00:26A major flood warning for the Albert River at Beanley went out at 10.30 last night, which

00:30includes the northern Gold Coast suburbs of Luscombe, Yatla, Stapleton, Alberton and Gilberton

00:36and the Logan suburbs of Tambourine, Cedar Creek, Wolfdean, Bannockburn, Windaroo, Mount

00:42Warren Park, Beanley and Eagleby.

00:44Those residents have been told it is too dangerous to leave, they should get up high and stay

00:49where they are.

00:50Earlier last night a warning was issued for Corumbin, Corumbin Valley, Talabudgera, Talabudgera

00:55Valley in Illinois, flood prone areas on the southern Gold Coast and flooding on the

01:00Narang River saw a Watch and Act alert issued for Carrara, Benoa, Emerald Lakes, Clear Island

01:05Waters, Mermaid Waters and Merrimack.

01:08There were a couple of people who had to be rescued from their cars last night and authorities

01:11are reminding everyone not to drive through flood waters.

01:14I have done the rounds this morning and it seems like so far we appear to have dodged

01:18a bullet.

01:19Our major rivers and creeks on the Gold Coast here are tidal low and the big concern was

01:23this morning's high tide at 5am.

01:26From what I have been told the flood waters on the Gold Coast's central and southern suburbs

01:29peaked last night and have been receding but there is a lot of water coming downstream

01:34from the hinterland too.

01:36That means the situation can change very quickly with more heavy rain expected today which

01:41could lead to life threatening flooding.

01:43The Bureau says the rain threat should be easing from this afternoon so we're not out

01:47of the woods just yet.

01:48Everyone should continue to monitor the situation very closely for the next 24 hours.
