00:00:00Welcome to Champions League match of the day. A place in the quarterfinals is at stake over the next week and the draw for the round of 16 is stacked with blockbuster ties. It's knockout football all the way to the final in Munich in May and each team knows the path they need to tread in order to get there. Joining us this evening, former Aston Villa midfielder Thomas Hitzelberger, our Champions League analyst Nader Manua and European football expert Rory Smith.
00:00:26We begin in Paris. Liverpool's reward for finishing top of the league phase was a meeting with a PSG side in fantastic form, having won their last 10 games in all competitions, scoring 40 goals in the process.
00:00:39Andi Barcola, great ball in again, this time it's in! Dembele in the box, Barcola finds Dembele!
00:00:54And it comes from Vitinha and it's in! Joe Neves! A remarkable Paris turnaround.
00:01:03The con is dangerous and it's headed in by Barcola! Dembele, it's brilliant!
00:01:12And away we go. Dembele! Oh, brilliant goal! All but into the round of 16.
00:01:19Paris Saint-Germain scoring goals for fun. They will be very difficult for whoever they play next.
00:01:24The Parc de Prince is the setting for the first leg. Commentary comes from Guy Mowbrou.
00:01:361981. A goal from Alan Kennedy in the 82nd minute. 1-0 against Real Madrid. European champions for the third time.
00:01:44This is a venue that holds fine memories for Liverpool.
00:01:49The PSG team that they face tonight is the same one that started their knockout playoff round second leg against Brest, winning 7-0.
00:01:58Remarkably, Ousmane Dembele didn't score any of them, but he has got 21 goals in his last 16 games.
00:02:05Six in the last four in the Champions League.
00:02:07For Liverpool, as expected, Cody Gagpo has been ruled out, having aggravated an injury in training.
00:02:15There's one change from last Wednesday's Premier League line-up against Newcastle as Andy Robertson returns in place of Costa Stimikas.
00:02:23Forget the idea of Parisian sophistication. The City of Light is heavy on the raw and the raucous tonight.
00:02:33As PSG look to make the most of home advantage.
00:02:38They may well need it for Anfield next week.
00:02:42Magnificent that from Dembele.
00:02:46What a chance that is! Oh, and it's flocked!
00:02:49Jo Neves looked as though he wasn't ready for it.
00:02:54What an opportunity for Jo Neves. And a big one goes by for PSG.
00:02:58Bele's at it again. Going all the way. Big deflection on that!
00:03:07Takes it well away from Alisson, but well wide too.
00:03:11He's flying. It's not just tonight. It's been over the last few months.
00:03:15Just full of it, Ousmane Dembele. Finally delivering on all that promise.
00:03:26Alisson gets the corner away.
00:03:31Vitinha, lots of time, didn't take it on.
00:03:33Didn't take it on.
00:03:34Kvaletskalian!
00:03:36He took it on!
00:03:39It's a beautiful goal!
00:03:42It's been coming!
00:03:44PSG have been pretty darn special in these opening 20 minutes.
00:03:49And it's Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 Liverpool.
00:03:54Or is it?
00:03:56It isn't.
00:03:58The left leg.
00:04:00Just offside. The left boot of Kvaletskalian.
00:04:09Over the top two, Barcola. Can he take it in control?
00:04:12Canate's there to stop him.
00:04:14PSG Howell for a penalty.
00:04:17It's getting looked at.
00:04:19It's been flagged up actually as potential red card rather than potential penalty right now.
00:04:23It's outside the box so that's why potential red card.
00:04:29Check over.
00:04:32PSG will feel that the luck is not with them right now.
00:04:37Barcola.
00:04:39He's starting to shine.
00:04:41Kvaletskalian!
00:04:43Portis the save from Alisson.
00:04:45Relatively routine.
00:04:47And another one fired in confidently.
00:04:49That was a shot that forced a decent save from Alisson.
00:04:54What did he expect to make?
00:04:56Grab a bit.
00:04:58Gets the return.
00:05:00Then gives the ball away to Barcola.
00:05:05Swerving past Alexander-Arnold. Where to next?
00:05:10Oh, it's Dembele and he's free!
00:05:13Smothered by Alisson.
00:05:15And he's there again.
00:05:16Barcola now.
00:05:18And Barcola again.
00:05:20And again.
00:05:23This is wonderful from Alisson.
00:05:25Out so quickly at the feet of Dembele.
00:05:27It's a boss line with the first block there.
00:05:32And then Barcola was wild.
00:05:36Liverpool's goal is leading a charmed life.
00:05:42Baletscalia lost the ball.
00:05:43Vitinho is doing his level best to retrieve quickly.
00:05:45It's eventually won back by Barcola and Baletscalia finds himself on the other side now.
00:05:57And wanders through.
00:05:59Saved by Alisson.
00:06:00Put behind by Alexander-Arnold.
00:06:02Alisson's at his best tonight and he needs to be.
00:06:14So Paris Saint-Germain will want to continue in the same manner in which they played the vast bulk of the first half.
00:06:21Only with some end product.
00:06:23Liverpool will continue to slow things down as best they can.
00:06:27Try and hit their hosts on the break.
00:06:29And be clinical when they can be.
00:06:33Baletscalia.
00:06:35Put under pressure and too much of it from Diogo Jota.
00:06:40Such is the alarm that goes off with Liverpool players whenever he gets the ball.
00:06:45Anywhere near some sort of shooting position.
00:06:48Just clumsy from Jota.
00:06:52This one won't be Dembele's.
00:06:54Baletscalia is claiming it.
00:06:56Has already scored two goals in ten games for PSG after his signing from Napoli.
00:07:0170 million euros and a little bit more to come.
00:07:06For a brief moment he thought he'd scored tonight.
00:07:09Baletscalia!
00:07:10Baletscalia!
00:07:14Did Alisson get there? I think he might have done.
00:07:17He did.
00:07:19Terrific effort and a top save another one.
00:07:21Nuna Mendes to Kvaratscalia.
00:07:30Kvaratscalia goes down.
00:07:33The referee gives a corner.
00:07:34By the looks of the reaction from the PSG number seven, he didn't expect anything more.
00:07:44Nuna Mendes waits his turn. It's coming.
00:07:49Whipped in and it was Savoslai at the near post.
00:07:55I wonder if that was close to creeping in.
00:07:58It was.
00:08:00Now the Liverpool changes.
00:08:02Diogo Jota is going to go off.
00:08:04Darwin Nunez to come on.
00:08:05We expected that one.
00:08:08And Luis Diaz is off for Curtis Jones to come on.
00:08:12One thing Darwin Nunez will do this evening is charge about putting a shift.
00:08:17He dare not after that miss at Aston Villa a fortnight ago.
00:08:20Look at those numbers. 25 attempts on goal to Liverpool's one.
00:08:29Darwin Nunez trying to make it two.
00:08:32And Donnarumma is down.
00:08:33Darwin Nunez keeps going and the referee's whistle is finally heard.
00:08:42And outburst in Italian.
00:08:43Because Donnarumma thinks that the game should have been stopped much sooner.
00:08:50He took Darwin Nunez's knee to his face.
00:08:56It's all accidental.
00:08:58The Liverpool striker has every reason to think he could get that ball.
00:09:05Arquinhos, Hakimi.
00:09:07Zaire Emery gets into the game.
00:09:14Vitinha.
00:09:18Due.
00:09:19Due!
00:09:20Good save again, Alisson!
00:09:24Desiree Due down that left-hand side.
00:09:27Taking a leaf out of Kvalanskalia's book.
00:09:30But he can't beat the brilliant Brazilian either.
00:09:33Imagine how he will feel if his team somehow comes away with this.
00:09:411-0 to the good.
00:09:46Dembele.
00:09:48Dembele trying to curl it.
00:09:50Alisson there again.
00:09:52Decisive goalkeeping.
00:09:54It's a boss line by Salah.
00:09:56And Liverpool drive a spring.
00:09:58He's looking for Darwin Nunez.
00:09:59But that's the second time tonight there's been a pass on for Mo Salah and he's not made it.
00:10:06What a save from Alisson.
00:10:08So many times in the Premier League.
00:10:10He goes through 90 minutes with precious little to do.
00:10:13And only in a game like this do you appreciate just how good he is.
00:10:18The disappointment clear to see on the face of Mo Salah.
00:10:20Not his evening.
00:10:22I think it was quite clear from early on that it was unlikely to be.
00:10:27Never likes being taken off but off he goes for Harvey Elliott to get a seven or eight minute run around.
00:10:34And he has scored in Liverpool's last two Champions League games.
00:10:38Trudged to the touchline for Salah.
00:10:45Don't think there's a player in the world game who visibly resents being substituted more than Mo Salah does.
00:10:54Not that it happens often.
00:10:58Darwin Nunez trying to get it down.
00:11:00He's got it down at his feet now.
00:11:01And here comes Elliott.
00:11:03And Elliott scored.
00:11:07Well this is incredible.
00:11:12Into the game to give Liverpool the lead.
00:11:17Against all the odds.
00:11:19All of them.
00:11:21They've been absolutely hammered all evening.
00:11:24They've barely had a sight of Gianluigi Donnarumma's goal.
00:11:29Enter Harvey Elliott.
00:11:32One chance taken.
00:11:36Credit to Darwin Nunez for keeping it alive.
00:11:39And then for picking out the pass.
00:11:43And enough power.
00:11:45From the left boot of Elliott.
00:11:47To incredibly.
00:11:49Astonishingly at the end of all this.
00:11:52Make it PSG 0.
00:11:54Liverpool 1.
00:11:57It's a Champions League smash and grab.
00:12:00Paris Saint-Germain have had their pockets picked.
00:12:04The manager was telling us how hard it would be to play against PSG.
00:12:10How good they are with the ball.
00:12:13We have to be ready to suffer.
00:12:15But we as well.
00:12:16We work hard.
00:12:17We gave away so many chances.
00:12:18All the efforts the team put in.
00:12:21And at the end like Harvey coming in and scoring the goal.
00:12:25It's unbelievable.
00:12:26A great story for us.
00:12:27A great night.
00:12:28I think when we would have had a draw over here we would have been already the lucky one.
00:12:31That is clear for everyone.
00:12:32I think they were the much better team today.
00:12:35Every underlying stat shows you that they are the best team in the Champions League.
00:12:39So we were the league table.
00:12:41We won it.
00:12:42But they were in the underlying stats the best team.
00:12:45So I wasn't surprised that they were so good.
00:12:48It's difficult to think about the match in a positive way.
00:12:51Because I think we deserved to win.
00:12:54Clearly.
00:12:55And when you think the best player of Liverpool was their goalkeeper Alisson.
00:13:01Okay.
00:13:02Football is many times unfair and we have to accept that.
00:13:05But we are ready to Liverpool.
00:13:09No doubt about Alisson's performance and we'll get to that.
00:13:11But that was an extraordinary game of football.
00:13:13It was indeed.
00:13:14I wouldn't say it was unfair.
00:13:15But you know I can't remember seeing Liverpool suffering so much.
00:13:18In the end winning the game.
00:13:20But everybody is well aware of it.
00:13:22Alisson Becker.
00:13:23If they go through to the next round they have to thank him.
00:13:25Because tonight definitely was an unbelievable performance.
00:13:28They will also thank Harvey Elick.
00:13:29Because they were probably thinking they'd have to thank Alisson.
00:13:31Because it was a great defensive performance.
00:13:33Nil do.
00:13:34That'll do.
00:13:35We'll take that back to Anfield.
00:13:36And then up pops Harvey.
00:13:37Absolutely.
00:13:38You want people coming off the bench to make a difference.
00:13:40And I'll be honest.
00:13:41When I'm seeing Salah coming off for Harvey Elick.
00:13:42I'm thinking it's probably not the most progressive substitution.
00:13:44But the fact is the manager trusts him.
00:13:46And he knows.
00:13:47This is a moment.
00:13:48Go out there and work hard for the team.
00:13:49Go on as hard as you can.
00:13:50And see what you can get.
00:13:51And that's exactly what he does.
00:13:52I think the left back Mendes have been great against Salah the whole game.
00:13:54But he switches off for a second.
00:13:56And Harvey Elick senses that opportunity.
00:13:58And will the ball drop to him?
00:13:59Yes it will.
00:14:00Finish.
00:14:01Part de France.
00:14:02Easy as you like it.
00:14:03It's a fantastic moment for him.
00:14:04And Nunes as well setting up the goal.
00:14:05I think that's what you need.
00:14:06I think at times when you are suffering as a team.
00:14:08You're just hoping for a moment.
00:14:09Hoping for a moment.
00:14:10And then if it does come.
00:14:11Can you take it?
00:14:12And as we saw.
00:14:13It's only their second shot.
00:14:14But as you just said.
00:14:15You know when Salah's coming off.
00:14:16And Elliott's coming on.
00:14:17You seem.
00:14:18They probably think.
00:14:19Let's go home.
00:14:20Get one point.
00:14:21It's fine.
00:14:22With this performance.
00:14:23It's enough.
00:14:24But Harvey Elick going forward.
00:14:25And actually trying.
00:14:26Is really unbelievable.
00:14:27Because he's supposed to defend.
00:14:28And just take a point home with them.
00:14:30Instead he goes forward.
00:14:31Because he's realised.
00:14:32Mendes is not tracking back.
00:14:33And there you go.
00:14:34Arna Slott there.
00:14:35Kind of making out.
00:14:36That they were always the underdogs.
00:14:37Coming into this.
00:14:38And obviously.
00:14:39The timing of the substitution.
00:14:40We have to give him credit.
00:14:41Yeah.
00:14:42Another feather in his cap.
00:14:43In a season.
00:14:44In which things are.
00:14:45Sort of going right for Arna Slott.
00:14:46I think.
00:14:47He'd made the Nunez.
00:14:48And Curtis Jones substitutions.
00:14:49Five.
00:14:50Five.
00:14:51Ten minutes beforehand.
00:14:52And he was obviously.
00:14:53Trying to just assert.
00:14:54A bit more control.
00:14:55I think he probably had decided.
00:14:56Like Nedim.
00:14:57That he was quite happy with the draw.
00:14:58And he just wanted to see the game out.
00:14:59But Elliott does carry a threat.
00:15:00And you wonder whether Mendes.
00:15:01Switches off a little bit.
00:15:02Because he's sort of.
00:15:03The challenge of Salah.
00:15:04Who wasn't happy to come off.
00:15:05But hadn't really.
00:15:06Affected the game at all.
00:15:07We shouldn't be surprised.
00:15:08About the attacking prowess.
00:15:09Of PSG.
00:15:10Because we've seen that.
00:15:11You know.
00:15:12Through this competition.
00:15:13But more in the last few months.
00:15:14Actually from them.
00:15:15But obviously.
00:15:16They had so many opportunities.
00:15:17That Alisson.
00:15:18Was good for.
00:15:19They would really now.
00:15:20Be ruining those.
00:15:21Squander chances.
00:15:22Particularly in the first half.
00:15:23Absolutely.
00:15:24I thought in the first half.
00:15:25They were great.
00:15:26And the thing that was missing.
00:15:27Were the goals themselves.
00:15:28But the fluidity of the front three.
00:15:29Is so so impressive.
00:15:30They will regularly be changing their size.
00:15:31But whenever they got the ball.
00:15:32They will go and try.
00:15:33And take it to the defenders.
00:15:34The ability to glide past people.
00:15:35But then also.
00:15:36Making sure they go into the key areas.
00:15:37To try and get chances as well.
00:15:38And they make the pitch so wide.
00:15:40They spread it.
00:15:41They force people to think.
00:15:42Is this the right place to go?
00:15:43Can I stay?
00:15:44Can I go?
00:15:45And when they run with the ball.
00:15:46The speed is terrifying.
00:15:47As a player.
00:15:48When someone's running.
00:15:49With that sort of speed.
00:15:50And you can't.
00:15:51Can't affect it straight away.
00:15:52It very much puts you on the back foot.
00:15:53Keeps you guessing.
00:15:54And these are some really good footballers.
00:15:56I think the one consistent as well.
00:15:57That we're seeing is.
00:15:58Alisson's having to keep himself involved.
00:16:00But I think the dynamism that they show.
00:16:01It almost makes you a time.
00:16:03As a full back here.
00:16:04Like Alexander Arnold.
00:16:05Do you stay?
00:16:06Do you go?
00:16:07Are you in the right position?
00:16:08Are you not?
00:16:0910 yards.
00:16:1015 yards.
00:16:11Some of these guys.
00:16:12It's 30, 40, 50 yards.
00:16:13And having those types of players.
00:16:14In your team.
00:16:15To make a difference.
00:16:16Is huge.
00:16:17But unfortunately for them.
00:16:18The final part.
00:16:19The most important part.
00:16:20Is getting the ball in the net.
00:16:21And he said.
00:16:22Alisson.
00:16:23It was the performance.
00:16:24Of his life.
00:16:25You know.
00:16:26These were.
00:16:27Obviously some fantastic saves.
00:16:28The most of Liverpool goalkeepers.
00:16:29Had to make.
00:16:30In Champions League football.
00:16:31Well.
00:16:32Not surprised.
00:16:33He said that himself.
00:16:34Obviously.
00:16:35And we could see it all.
00:16:36Of course.
00:16:37We knew he's a good goalkeeper.
00:16:38And I'm.
00:16:39I'm looking forward to.
00:16:40To the second leg.
00:16:41Because.
00:16:42Wondering how.
00:16:43PSG is going to come back.
00:16:44And recover from it.
00:16:45Because.
00:16:46They've seen tonight.
00:16:47They were a much better team.
00:16:48And yet.
00:16:49They didn't win.
00:16:50They didn't get anything out of this game.
00:16:51I doubt that Alisson Beckham.
00:16:52Is going to have another night.
00:16:53Like tonight.
00:16:54Because this.
00:16:55Was exceptional.
00:16:56And.
00:16:57We've seen performances like this before.
00:16:58But they don't happen regularly.
00:16:59When you're a big star.
00:17:00People take the pictures for you.
00:17:01Well exactly.
00:17:02Yeah.
00:17:0327 shots to two.
00:17:05They won't play.
00:17:06That way.
00:17:07At Anfield.
00:17:08You would expect.
00:17:09Of course.
00:17:10So Beckham won't have to.
00:17:11Have quite the same night.
00:17:12Will he?
00:17:13Because there'll be more attack.
00:17:14You have to assume.
00:17:15Liverpool will play better.
00:17:16At Anfield.
00:17:17Liverpool weren't.
00:17:18Great.
00:17:19Tonight.
00:17:20A bit of credit.
00:17:21They did limit.
00:17:22PSG.
00:17:23To kind of.
00:17:24Worst quality chances.
00:17:25In the second half.
00:17:26The one from.
00:17:27The one from Desiree Douay.
00:17:28And the one from.
00:17:29The free kick.
00:17:30From Kvaric.
00:17:31But there was.
00:17:32There were a lot of chances.
00:17:33Kind of around.
00:17:34The edge of the box.
00:17:35They weren't getting through PSG.
00:17:36But I think they carry the threat.
00:17:37And Kvaric Gelia in particular.
00:17:38Looked like a nightmare to play against tonight.
00:17:40He started on the right.
00:17:41Kind of came into the middle for a bit.
00:17:43Ended up on the left.
00:17:44And the thing that I think makes him so different.
00:17:46That makes him stand out so much.
00:17:48Is you don't know what he's going to do.
00:17:50He can take you on.
00:17:51He can run at you like Nedim says.
00:17:52He can also have a.
00:17:53Have a pot shot from 35 yards.
00:17:55And have a decent chance of scoring.
00:17:56But I think also.
00:17:57PSG is one of those teams a bit under the radar.
00:17:59I'd say most people don't follow Ligue 1 as much.
00:18:02You know.
00:18:03We talk about Real Madrid.
00:18:04Atletico Madrid.
00:18:05Liverpool.
00:18:06And some other teams.
00:18:07And Arnes Lott said it in the press conference.
00:18:08He knew exactly how good PSG was.
00:18:10And now we've got the proof.
00:18:12We've seen it.
00:18:13Anything that was missing.
00:18:14We saw that impressive performance.
00:18:15Against Manchester City.
00:18:16Of course.
00:18:17But actually.
00:18:18We were talking about next week.
00:18:19And whether or not.
00:18:20Liverpool.
00:18:21You know.
00:18:22Are not going to make it through.
00:18:23After tonight's performance.
00:18:24You'd expect.
00:18:25You know.
00:18:261-0 win like that.
00:18:27They're going to improve.
00:18:28At Anfield.
00:18:29And you're still not sure.
00:18:30That this is.
00:18:31A tie that they're going to comfortably.
00:18:32No.
00:18:33I think what was.
00:18:34If you're PSG.
00:18:35And I think the team you said afterwards.
00:18:36You know.
00:18:37They showed their character.
00:18:38They showed their personality.
00:18:39They will go to Anfield.
00:18:40And think they can do the same.
00:18:41I think the challenge that Liverpool have got.
00:18:42When you have.
00:18:43Ousmane Dembele.
00:18:44When you have Dwey.
00:18:45When he came on.
00:18:46When you have.
00:18:47When you have.
00:18:48When you have Bradley Barcola.
00:18:49And they are running at you.
00:18:50It's really hard to defend.
00:18:51So there's no reason to believe.
00:18:52That PSG are out of this.
00:18:53At all.
00:18:54They have to look down.
00:18:55The kind of list of matches.
00:18:56They haven't had a big away win.
00:18:57Have they?
00:18:58No.
00:18:59That's true.
00:19:00They lost at Arsenal.
00:19:01Very limply.
00:19:02Early on.
00:19:03And then lost at Bayern Munich.
00:19:04Fairly limply as well.
00:19:05And that is the.
00:19:06PSG.
00:19:07Because we're used to seeing them underperform.
00:19:08In the Champions League knockout stages.
00:19:10Didn't feel like they underperformed tonight.
00:19:11No.
00:19:12And Liverpool at the weekend.
00:19:13They've got Southampton as well.
00:19:14So you'd expect if they want.
00:19:15They can rotate a little bit there.
00:19:17Yeah.
00:19:18I think this is fair.
00:19:19I think that goal is.
00:19:20It's also important for them.
00:19:21Because it can sort of change.
00:19:22How they feel about the upcoming game.
00:19:23And yes.
00:19:24The Southampton game.
00:19:25It's the Premier League game.
00:19:26It is technically tough.
00:19:27But they would take a Southampton game.
00:19:29As opposed to anything else.
00:19:30Before that second leg against PSG.
00:19:31Okay.
00:19:32Finally in the balance though.
00:19:33I think we can all agree.
00:19:34Okay.
00:19:35Arsenal and Aston Villa's matches from last night.
00:19:37Still to come.
00:19:38But it's to the Allianz Arena next.
00:19:40And the all Bundesliga clash.
00:19:42Bayern Munich squeeze past Celtic in the playoffs.
00:19:44And face a tie against German champions.
00:19:46Bayer Leverkusen.
00:19:47Who ended Bayern's run.
00:19:48Of 11 consecutive titles last season.
00:19:51Your commentators.
00:19:52Stuart Robson.
00:19:53And Steve Wilson.
00:19:56For the fourth time this season.
00:19:58These two meet.
00:19:59And it's two and a half years.
00:20:00Since Bayern last beat.
00:20:02Bayer Leverkusen.
00:20:03Six meetings.
00:20:04Three draws.
00:20:05Three defeats.
00:20:06Could Bayern.
00:20:07Who hosts the final here in May.
00:20:09Be knocked out.
00:20:10At the round of 16.
00:20:14It's worth just reminding yourselves.
00:20:15That Leverkusen.
00:20:16Are in red.
00:20:17Even though Bayern are at home.
00:20:19Strimpong tried to get forward.
00:20:21And.
00:20:22Just wonder.
00:20:23If.
00:20:24Kim is alright here.
00:20:25Does he just.
00:20:26Oh.
00:20:27He just twists his ankle there.
00:20:28Yeah.
00:20:29That doesn't look good.
00:20:30Does it for Kim.
00:20:31Kim is at least on his feet.
00:20:33Oh.
00:20:34He's running okay.
00:20:35That's great news.
00:20:36Yeah.
00:20:37It's a free kick to.
00:20:38Bayern Munich.
00:20:39Yeah.
00:20:40Mosso.
00:20:41Former.
00:20:42I think they go Madrid player.
00:20:43Wrestling Kane to the ground.
00:20:44Kim.
00:20:45There's a doubt for this game.
00:20:46Actually.
00:20:47It's going to take this free kick.
00:20:48Bending it in.
00:20:49Go ahead.
00:20:50Go ahead.
00:20:51Cleared off the line.
00:20:52Hermoso.
00:20:53Got the block on the line.
00:20:54It was goal bound.
00:20:55It seemed from Goretzka.
00:20:56Good clearance.
00:20:57From Hermoso.
00:20:58It's Kane.

00:21:49Up to Meccano, that's a bit short, and Neuer with a great save.
00:22:00Shrimpong was in because he was short from Up and Meccano.
00:22:04Manuel Neuer to the rescue.
00:22:07That's a good save, he just gets that left arm up in time, doesn't he?
00:22:10What a chance.
00:22:11It was uncomfortable enough, I don't think Incappier really knew where Olisse was, and it's a corner.
00:22:27Kimmich with the delivery, some pace on that, Mushial has hit the bar.
00:22:34A header from very close range, which cannoned off the woodwork.
00:22:39What a delivery, what a chance.
00:22:44Silly very deep at the moment by Leverkusen.
00:22:47That's Kane.
00:22:49Fair challenge, and Kane has then caught Granit Xhaka, and Leverkusen are very happy about that challenge.
00:22:59Xhaka wins it back.
00:23:00Kane thought it was a foul, and then has a little...
00:23:02Well, then he didn't actually catch Xhaka, did he?
00:23:05Miqueli is having a go at Harry Kane.
00:23:10The referee decided those are the two players that deserve the yellow card.
00:23:13It's a darting run, and a really good one by Davies.
00:23:24It's coming for Kimmich.
00:23:27Kimmich's careful ball in, is dropped, and put in the net by Mushiala.
00:23:32Terrible moment for Matej KovƔcs.
00:23:37It's his error, it's Bayern's second goal, and it is a gift for Mushiala.
00:23:462-0.
00:23:46Well, what a massive error.
00:23:51KovƔcs.
00:23:53Should be an easy take for him.
00:23:55Kroos was too close.
00:23:57What an error.
00:23:58What a big moment for Bayern Munich here.
00:24:01Davies.
00:24:08Kimmich's play by Koeman, but Koeman was caught, and Mukiyele's hands are raised in apology here.
00:24:14And it's a yellow card for Mukiyele, which is his second of the game, and he is sent off.
00:24:22And now Xavi Alonso is Bayern Leverkusen.
00:24:25Have to try and get through at least half an hour.
00:24:282-0 down in Munich, with only 10 on the pitch.
00:24:33In goes the corner kick.
00:24:35KovƔcs came for it, got something on it.
00:24:37Goretzka will go and collect.
00:24:39Settles for a throw.
00:24:40Yeah, Harry Kane, she is complaining to the referee.
00:24:43There was some fouling by Tapsova, and the referee's just stopped it here.
00:24:48There is a line beyond which you cannot go,
00:24:50and Tapsova might have gone beyond it.
00:24:53Michael Oliver gives the penalty kick to Bayern Munich.
00:25:00And Harry Kane here has the opportunity to score from the penalty spot for Bayern Munich
00:25:05for what would be the 13th time this season.
00:25:10The previous 12 have all ended up in the back of the net.
00:25:153-0.
00:25:20Well, there's no stopping that.
00:25:23Yes, there's a slight hesitation in his run-up,
00:25:27but he hits it into the top right-hand corner.
00:25:29It's a brilliant penalty.
00:25:32Height will always beat the goalkeeper, but when it's in the corner as well,
00:25:36what composure, what technique, what a player Harry Kane is.
00:25:39It feels like a decisive scoreline.
00:25:42I think, obviously, there are, you know, our closest rivals here in Germany.
00:25:50They showed, you know, this is, I think, maybe their fifth loss in the last two years.
00:25:54So, you know, they're a really top side,
00:25:56and, you know, sometimes they get maybe a little underappreciated
00:25:59because Bayern is such a big club,
00:26:01but we've had to battle them.
00:26:02We've had some tough games against them,
00:26:03and we know next week will be really tough as well.
00:26:05They'll come with a belief that they can turn it around,
00:26:07and we have to go with the same mindset we have today
00:26:09and, yeah, try and get through.
00:26:1231 goals in 34 games, Harry Kane, so far this season.
00:26:16So, of course, he was going to be instrumental in this win tonight.
00:26:19Well, he was indeed.
00:26:20Two things, I'd say Bayern, you know, credit to them.
00:26:23They've showed up tonight.
00:26:24They really played a good game.
00:26:26But on the other hand, Leverkusen,
00:26:27they've got themselves really in this bad position.
00:26:30There was no need for it.
00:26:31They weren't the better side in the first half.
00:26:33Bayern clearly was.
00:26:331-0 was OK, but in the second half, Leverkusen,
00:26:36really stupid mistakes at this level.
00:26:38You just don't expect that.
00:26:39And that's why a great result for Bayern.
00:26:41They deserve it.
00:26:42And Harry Kane was instrumental, you know,
00:26:44with two goals, of course.
00:26:46He set himself up for the first one.
00:26:48Two English guys together.
00:26:51There you've got more Leverkusen players in the box,
00:26:53and yet Harry Kane gets to the end of it.
00:26:55Mukele, bad positioning.
00:26:57He's had a nightmare this evening.
00:26:58Got sent off, as we've seen before.
00:27:00And, yeah, great header.
00:27:02Can't do any better than that.
00:27:04And as we saw with the second goal,
00:27:05that Harry Kane scored.
00:27:07I know there's people in the game who say
00:27:08you can't practice penalties,
00:27:09but Harry Kane proves these people wrong.
00:27:11You can practice, because if you do so,
00:27:13you keep scoring like you does.
00:27:15Since he joined Bayern Munich,
00:27:17he's scored 17 Champions League goals,
00:27:20which is the most across Europe.
00:27:21And you look at the people he's ahead of there.
00:27:24There is still this rumbling.
00:27:26There's a couple of, you know, dissenters.
00:27:28There are people making a few noises
00:27:29that he doesn't show up in the big games.
00:27:32Can we put that to bed now?
00:27:34I think it's very hard to make a coherent argument
00:27:37that Harry Kane, with all, just by weight of numbers,
00:27:39he's got a lot of goals.
00:27:40Some of them must have been in big games.
00:27:42I think there is a genuine debate in Germany,
00:27:44at times, over his mobility.
00:27:47There's a feeling, certainly,
00:27:48there was a game against Frankfurt
00:27:49that he missed a few weeks ago,
00:27:50where, I think,
00:27:51Elise Sane and Musiala played up front,
00:27:53because Kane was injured.
00:27:55And Bayern looked a little bit more fluid.
00:27:57But the problem is that Kane is such a reliable goal scorer,
00:28:00that even if he detracts from, kind of,
00:28:01the fluency of the team,
00:28:03how on earth do you leave him out?
00:28:05Yeah, there's no need.
00:28:07Of course, I mean,
00:28:07I've seen him in games where he was very quiet,
00:28:09you know, obviously,
00:28:10when he didn't score a goal,
00:28:11he didn't have many touches of it.
00:28:13And then people start saying, you know,
00:28:14has he reached his peak already?
00:28:17But then he comes back, you know,
00:28:18we talk about Champions League,
00:28:19the record speaks for itself.
00:28:21And therefore, he's so important.
00:28:23They were certainly a lot more alert to everything tonight,
00:28:25to the performance they put in against Celtic.
00:28:28And that was in the wings, obviously.
00:28:30Celtic had a lot of joy down there, didn't they,
00:28:32in the width of the game.
00:28:33But tonight, actually,
00:28:34Elise and Koeman were both quite impressive.
00:28:36They were, the entire team.
00:28:37But of course, you know,
00:28:38when you've got your front players,
00:28:39the wingers also put in pressure on your position.
00:28:42And always being on the front foot,
00:28:43that sets the tone,
00:28:44makes life easier for the people behind you.
00:28:47And they were instrumental.
00:28:48But I think Vincent Kompany will talk about
00:28:50every single player,
00:28:51praise them how well they played.
00:28:52And then probably, first of all,
00:28:54was Harry Kane.
00:28:55When you get a player sent off,
00:28:56and you get a penalty,
00:28:57and your goalkeeper makes a mistake as well,
00:28:59you know,
00:28:59Xavi Alonso must be just kind of sitting there thinking,
00:29:01what now?
00:29:02Is there any way back for them in the second leg?
00:29:05You'd like to think so from their perspective.
00:29:08They're playing at home.
00:29:09You know,
00:29:09they know what the task is going to be.
00:29:10But I think if the more open they are,
00:29:12the more they're playing to Bayern Munich's hands.
00:29:13So, unfortunately,
00:29:14I think it's probably over from their standpoint.
00:29:16But for Bayern,
00:29:17I think that's job done.
00:29:18OK.
00:29:19Arsenal finished third in the league phase,
00:29:21and Mikel Arteta's side.
00:29:22We're in Eindhoven last night
00:29:23to take on PSV,
00:29:24who overcame Juventus in the playoffs.
00:29:26Steve Wilson,
00:29:27watch this one.
00:29:27For the third season running,
00:29:32Arsenal face PSV Eindhoven,
00:29:35who are unbeaten here in the Netherlands
00:29:37in five European games this season,
00:29:40and that includes a win over Liverpool.
00:29:43The home side have had a blip in form,
00:29:45though,
00:29:45going out of their cup
00:29:46and losing ground in the league
00:29:48to leaders Ajax.
00:29:49Marek Tillman and Riccardo Pepe both injured.
00:29:52There are two changes to the side
00:29:54which beat Juventus in the playoff,
00:29:56including a start for Tyrell Molassia
00:29:59on loan from Manchester United.
00:30:01Arsenal make two changes to the XI
00:30:03which drew at Nottingham Forest in the league.
00:30:06Out go Calafiore and Jorginho.
00:30:08In come Luis Skelly and Partey.
00:30:14Neither side are in devastating form.
00:30:16Arsenal have lost three of their last four
00:30:19in all competitions,
00:30:20and PSV have won only two of their last eight.
00:30:23Perisic in four,
00:30:25pushing it across,
00:30:26chance!
00:30:27Oh, he's in the woodwork!
00:30:29Saibari should have put them in front,
00:30:31and the follow-up is wide too.
00:30:34Arsenal very fortunate.
00:30:36Brilliant play throughout this move
00:30:38by Ivan Perisic.
00:30:41Saibari should score.
00:30:42Lewis Skelly.
00:30:55Trossard.
00:31:00Good bit of movement by Dexman Rice,
00:31:02and skips the cross injury,
00:31:03and Timber!
00:31:041-0 Arsenal!
00:31:07Timber puts Arsenal in front,
00:31:09back in his home country,
00:31:12but it's great work to set him up.
00:31:16Saibari's miss looks more costly
00:31:18still as Jorginho Timber
00:31:21puts Arsenal in front.
00:31:24Really good play
00:31:25here by Declan Rice,
00:31:28and it's a lovely left-footed swiveling cross
00:31:31right onto the head of Timber.
00:31:33And Arsenal are in front moments
00:31:36after they very nearly fell behind.
00:31:39PSV have gone 58 home matches
00:31:42without defeat
00:31:43until they lost a cup quarterfinal here
00:31:47to go-ahead Eagles
00:31:49in their last home game.
00:31:52Clever ball that into Lewis Skelly
00:31:54from Trossard.
00:31:54Look how many Arsenal players
00:31:55there are in there!
00:31:56And it's in!
00:31:57Warneri makes it 2-0!
00:32:01Two Arsenal goals in two minutes!
00:32:03It's an outstanding finish
00:32:07from Ethan Warneri
00:32:09and PSV are in big trouble here.
00:32:13Arsenal needed a response
00:32:15and they have found it decisively.
00:32:21That's a good play.
00:32:24Perisic getting forward.
00:32:27De Jong is found.
00:32:29Lewis Skelly's booked.
00:32:30Levan Perisic here for PSV Eindhoven.
00:32:41Ledesmo with the overlapping run.
00:32:43I think he was caught.
00:32:46Lewis Skelly already has a yellow card.
00:32:49The PSV supporters
00:32:50are howling here
00:32:53for Lewis Skelly
00:32:55to be sent off.
00:32:57Let's have a look.
00:32:58Wow.
00:33:00Wow, he's fortunate.
00:33:02He is so fortunate.
00:33:05I think he expected to go there.
00:33:11Molassi has lost it.
00:33:13Warneri.
00:33:16Timber assessing his options
00:33:18one of which is to shoot.
00:33:19He didn't.
00:33:20He tried to thread it into Mikel Moreno.
00:33:23Stumbling PSV defenders
00:33:24looking to clear it.
00:33:26And it's into the back of the net.
00:33:30Mikel Moreno rolls the ball
00:33:32into the back of the PSV Eindhoven net.
00:33:35Ryan Flamingo
00:33:36just seemed to stop playing.
00:33:39And Moreno rolls the ball
00:33:41in for an easy third.
00:33:43What a messy piece of play
00:33:45by PSV Eindhoven.
00:33:47Flamingo has just got to clear it.
00:33:49Just put your foot through it.
00:33:51He prods it and falls over.
00:33:53And Mikel Moreno says
00:33:55thank you very much.
00:33:57It's PSV Eindhoven nil.
00:33:59Arsenal three.
00:34:00It's a terrible piece of defending.
00:34:04And Miles Lewis Skelly
00:34:05is being taken off
00:34:07and replaced
00:34:08by Calafiore.
00:34:11And Arsenal are fortunate
00:34:12to have 11 men on the pitch.
00:34:13It's a good ball, huh?
00:34:23Scouting here for PSV
00:34:25finding Perisic.
00:34:27And it flicked off Calafiore.
00:34:29It did.
00:34:31PSV have a corner.
00:34:32In goes the corner.
00:34:39Man has gone down
00:34:40and PSV
00:34:41have been awarded a penalty.
00:34:45Thomas Partey, I think,
00:34:46is the offender.
00:34:48De Jong
00:34:49with Partey.
00:34:50Partey is looking for him.
00:34:52Puts his hand across him
00:34:53and then the
00:34:54second movement of the hand
00:34:55onto the neck of
00:34:56De Jong, I think,
00:34:57is enough.
00:34:58It's a penalty to PSV.
00:35:01A yellow card
00:35:02for Thomas Partey.
00:35:06So it's Lang
00:35:07against David Reier.
00:35:09And he scores.
00:35:11PSV on the scoreboard.
00:35:14Very good penalty.
00:35:15This is
00:35:16no messing about.
00:35:20It was a very busy
00:35:22first half
00:35:23and it could be
00:35:23a very busy second.
00:35:26Muneri.

00:36:30It's a lovely

00:36:31Look at that
00:36:31from Trossard
00:36:32into Calafiori
00:36:34but he doesn't
00:36:34stand and admire it.
00:36:35He wants the ball
00:36:36back,
00:36:37gets it
00:36:37and dinks it
00:36:38over Benitez
00:36:40for 5-1.

00:37:03by Odegaard
00:37:04and a powerful
00:37:05shot.
00:37:06I think
00:37:06Benitez
00:37:06won't
00:37:07want to
00:37:07see it
00:37:07again.
00:37:08Arsenal
00:37:09have six.
00:37:11More than

00:37:59I'm
00:38:00proud
00:38:00of the
00:38:00guys
00:38:01we
00:38:01showed
00:38:02today
00:38:02in
00:38:02the
00:38:02Champions
00:38:02League
00:38:03again
00:38:03that
00:38:03we're
00:38:04capable
00:38:04of
00:38:04a lot
00:38:04and we
00:38:05put
00:38:05ourselves
00:38:05in a
00:38:06good
00:38:06position
00:38:06for next
00:38:07week.
00:38:07We feel
00:38:08as players
00:38:08we've been
00:38:08doing well.
00:38:09Sometimes
00:38:09we score
00:38:10five or
00:38:10six.
00:38:10Sometimes
00:38:11we score
00:38:11two or
00:38:11three.
00:38:11Sometimes
00:38:12we can
00:38:12lose by
00:38:12one.
00:38:13That's
00:38:13where we
00:38:13need to
00:38:13keep
00:38:13pushing
00:38:14as a team
00:38:15with the
00:38:15mentality.
00:38:16Tonight we've
00:38:16certainly done that.
00:38:17Especially when they come back into the game 3-1.
00:38:19We could have sat back but we had the opportunity to go and score more goals and I think you see that in the second half.
00:38:23It was massive performance.
00:38:27Yeah it was a huge night for Arsenal. Records were tumbling all evening. Maybe that's the most impressive. The biggest away win in Champions League knockout stage history. When you consider in the previous four games three of them they failed to score a goal and all the chat was about the lost opportunity in January to bring in a striker. Looks like they didn't need one after all.
00:38:46No apparently not and I think Michael Arteta is somebody who's always believed in his squad. He understands that they've had injuries and maybe they need an extra body to replace one or two. But he knows his team can score goals. You know these are some of the biggest scorers in European football and I was very very impressed with them yesterday. I think going out here we had a belief that they were going to be coming up against the side would make it very very tough for them. But in credit to Arsenal they were very very flexible in terms of how they were tactically moving about the field. You see Louis Skelly get on the ball and whenever the chance was for the ball to come into the box they would always put big numbers in there. Five players in a box at this point.
00:39:16Why do you need a number nine when you've got that many bodies in there? And best of all it comes in with a great ball from Deckenweiss and the header there from Timber. The right back is the right man in the right spot. And again Louis Skelly he's coming inside. He's trying to affect the game in a positive manner. In ways where we don't usually see left backs but he's trusted in there.
00:39:32And again the numbers in the box. For PS3 they're probably wondering this isn't this isn't normal for us. Why are there so many players trying to affect it? And Waineri here makes a great run and have some of that. Kick that a bit harder if you want young fella. It's very very impressive. And even now the second half they've got a lead. Maybe they'll put their foot, take their foot off the gas.
00:39:49But instead no. They want to be dynamic. They want to go into the spaces. Califiori here. Looking up really well with Trossard. Getting into those areas. And you know what? Don't stand still. Go again. Go again. Try and be forceful.
00:39:59Kill off the tie as well.
00:40:00That's literally what they tried to do. But again look at the bodies in the box. I think for PS3 they thought you know at some stage we'll get back into this game. But in reality you know it was never there. And this is the one I love the most. As a former defender this is what we all think we can do.
00:40:12So Califiori in this moment here. He's playing as a striker. Comes short to try and receive. He doesn't get it. Continues a run. Ball goes to Odegaard. How about this for a through ball? And Califiori on his right foot into the corner like that. Who needs a number now when you've got a left back that can score goals like that?
00:40:26A great team performance. But the youngsters really caught the eye. Didn't they? And Nguan Airy and Lewis Skelly at 17 and 18 years old. Linking up for that second goal. Very special indeed. Would they have caught the eye of Thomas Tuchel though?
00:40:41You'd like to think so. His next England squad. Obviously you know they are young and they've got many many years ahead of them. But if they're good in the now then why not consider them?
00:40:48And do you fit him in the team Nguan Airy when Saka comes back hopefully in a few weeks time for Arsenal?
00:40:53Listen. He's such a star. I'd be very surprised if he spends a lot of time on the bench when after Saka comes back. I think there's every chance he will find a way to be in that team and make a big difference.
00:41:01Of course Miles Lewis Skelly didn't have the minutes on the pitch he might have been hoping for. His manager had to hook him off didn't he? Because he was aware of the fact that with that first yellow card and then a potential yellow card that wasn't given the sensible thing to do was get him off.
00:41:15I think so. To be honest this first one I think he's unlucky. I don't really think it's a foul let alone a yellow card but the referee's been quite forceful he's decided that's what it is.
00:41:22But the moment you're on a yellow card you've got to be careful and it's good to be a young player to try and want to be out there and make a difference but sometimes you've just got to stay on your feet.
00:41:29And I think from the way he's getting up there he's always going to have a long walk to go down the tunnel but he gets away with it.
00:41:34But thankfully for them it didn't matter and for him it's a great learning opportunity.
00:41:38So you know smile for now because these days don't come on very often.
00:41:41It's a huge occasion though isn't it for them to be able to cope with that environment and you understand there's going to be a little bit of getting used to that.
00:41:48Yeah 100% but I think best of all I try to trust them and that's the thing that's hugely impressive.
00:41:53Okay Aston Villa also began their knockout campaign away from home last night against Club Bruges a side they'd already faced and lost to in the league phase courtesy of a bizarre penalty incident.
00:42:03The Belgian champions impressively overcame Atalanta in the playoff round and commentary comes from Steve Bauer.
00:42:11What a week ahead for Villa experiencing this scenario for the first time in 42 years.
00:42:17There's another start for Marcus Rashford but three times Champions League winner Marco Asensio is on the bench.
00:42:28That's a foul by Odenis.
00:42:31Feel a free kick.
00:42:33Tielemann's with it.
00:42:38Aimed towards Mings who almost got there and oh what a start.
00:42:41In came Leon Bailey.
00:42:45Less than two and a half minutes in.
00:42:50It's a blockbuster beginning and a dream one for Aston Villa.
00:42:56And it's a very first Champions League goal in his career for Leon Bailey.
00:43:04But look at that for a finish from the Jamaica International.
00:43:09The perfect script for Villa.
00:43:11Bruges 0, Villa 1.
00:43:13Rashford, Rashford, he's got rounds.
00:43:23Michele, never man over here, Villa.
00:43:26It's Bailey the goal scorer.
00:43:28It's Rashford.
00:43:30And it's Mignolet.
00:43:31With a save with his legs to deny him.
00:43:36It's a super sharp start from Villa.
00:43:45Lifted forward.
00:43:47To Zos.
00:43:48Up against the Sassi.
00:43:51De Kuyper coming in.
00:43:54Bruges level.
00:43:57Maxim de Kuyper.
00:44:01Two goals.
00:44:04In ten minutes already in the tie.
00:44:06Terrific response.
00:44:10From the Belgian Champions.
00:44:14Lovely finish from the full back.
00:44:18And the perfect response from Bruges.
00:44:21To make it 1-1.
00:44:31The Kuyper's cross.
00:44:32He drilled that in.
00:44:34It's come to Talby.
00:44:35And Martinez was required.
00:44:39Excellent reflexes.
00:44:42Martinez.
00:44:43He's used to big saves.
00:44:44This was certainly one.
00:44:48Options available to N.A.M.R. again with players back from injury.
00:44:58Rodgers.
00:45:01Now Asensio.
00:45:05To Ramsey.
00:45:07Looking for Asensio.
00:45:09Mignolet with a save.
00:45:10And then Cash over.
00:45:13Well, with those four goals in three games.
00:45:17Marco Asensio is in form.
00:45:20Difficult for Mati Cash.
00:45:22To get over the rebound.
00:45:24To get over the rebound.
00:45:28To take on Cash.
00:45:32He got the cross in as well.
00:45:33Van Aken.
00:45:37Let off for Villa.
00:45:38The captain will be disappointed.
00:45:41That he hasn't made it 2-1.
00:45:45Totally unopposed.
00:45:47And right across the face.
00:45:50He thought Ming's got a touch to this.
00:45:52This angle will tell us.
00:45:54Either way, that's how close it was to Villa going behind.
00:45:57Villa are delighted to see that go high and wide.
00:46:14Ramsey.
00:46:18Rodgers is on the move.
00:46:20He's been found by Kamara.
00:46:21First time cross.
00:46:22Diverted home.
00:46:24By Michele.
00:46:28And the own goal.
00:46:30Restores Villa's lead.
00:46:31With eight minutes to go.
00:46:36Brandon Michele.
00:46:38With the outstretched leg.
00:46:40Who could only divert it.
00:46:42Pass him on Mignolet.
00:46:44And on a night of fine margins.
00:46:47That is a slice of luck.
00:46:49That Villa will gratefully receive.
00:46:52Ascensio.
00:47:04Cash goes down.
00:47:05And the referee's posted to the spot.
00:47:07It's a penalty to Aston Villa.
00:47:10Well, what a full minute.
00:47:12From 1-1.
00:47:14To a scenario where Villa could be leading 3-1.
00:47:18With just three minutes remaining.
00:47:20The three times Champions League winner.
00:47:22Marco Ascensio for 3-1.
00:47:25What a situation for Villa.
00:47:31It's a fifth Villa goal already.
00:47:34For the Spaniard.
00:47:35Who beats Mignolet.
00:47:36To give them a 3-1 advantage.
00:47:42Perfect penalty from Ascensio.
00:47:44He's really off and running in a Villa shirt.
00:47:47We're in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
00:47:49So you're going to have to defend well.
00:47:50And you have to be brave.
00:47:52You have to show a lot of character.
00:47:54And I think we've done that very well tonight.
00:47:55We are going to play another 90 minutes.
00:47:57Continuing the game plan we did here today.
00:48:01And trying to extend there another 90 minutes.
00:48:03And of course, we are ready in cases where we are getting the extra time.
00:48:07And in case we are getting the penalty shot.
00:48:09We have to be ready.
00:48:10Because we have to respect everything.
00:48:13Well, Thomas, the stats will show you that this was a tighter game than a 3-1 scoreline would lead you to believe.
00:48:19And we gave praise to Arna Slott for his timing of his substitutions.
00:48:23We should give similar praise to Unai Emery.
00:48:24Because he kind of had enough, hadn't he?
00:48:26He was going to bring on the cavalry.
00:48:27Well, absolutely.
00:48:28But like PSG was said before.
00:48:31Bruges are a good side.
00:48:32Most people know.
00:48:33But making substitutions.
00:48:34When you bring in four players at the same time.
00:48:36And in this case, eight fresh legs.
00:48:38That makes a big difference.
00:48:39You see them going forward.
00:48:40They really changed this game.
00:48:43Because Bruges, they defended well.
00:48:45But all the four players that came on, they kept on bombing forward.
00:48:48We see Matty Cash keep pushing on.
00:48:50Bubaka Kamara.
00:48:51You know, people have seen him before.
00:48:52Now how good he is on the ball.
00:48:53Not just starting to play.
00:48:55But encouraging players to go forward.
00:48:57Because they could have easily said as a team, let's just go back to Villa Park.
00:49:001-1.
00:49:01You know, this is a good result.
00:49:02But they kept on pushing forward.
00:49:04And again, before Unai Emery, he's not the sort of manager who wants to encourage his players to sit back.
00:49:09Of course, it's a bit fortunate.
00:49:11Naidan, you just said it's a mistake.
00:49:13I'm not comfortable with that.
00:49:13Yeah, it's a big mistake for me.
00:49:15It's a big mistake for me.
00:49:16But I think from what you're saying here, with these players that came on, they brought energy and they had the quality.
00:49:21And Cashier being in the box, this is no surprise.
00:49:23Obviously, it's another mistake.
00:49:24But the quality that they brought on is there and it made a big difference.
00:49:28He could have waited.
00:49:29And a surprise to me is Asensio, a player who's just joined Villa in January.
00:49:34He's taken that penalty.
00:49:35You would expect somebody like Oli Watkins or Telemans to take that penalty.
00:49:39But no, they gave the ball to Asensio because he's already that demanding player.
00:49:44And they have to believe in him that he scores.
00:49:45What an asset he is, especially if they're going to keep going forwards in Europe with his stat of being the substitute who scored the most Champions League goals ahead of some impressive names, including Benzema and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer there.
00:49:58I mean, he is really going to be utilised well.
00:50:01Yeah, I think of Villa's sort of January signings, it was Rashford, obviously, who'd captured the imagination in England most because he's Marcus Rashford, does everything that happened at Manchester United, that kind of narrative of his rebirth.
00:50:12Marco Asensio's stalled in the Champions League final.
00:50:14He's played 70 Champions League games.
00:50:16He was at Real Madrid for nine years.
00:50:18He is an elite footballer.
00:50:20And I think that he's been around for so long, kind of as a substitute mainly at Real.
00:50:24You maybe overlooked that a little bit, but he is, you know, he's vastly experienced.
00:50:28He's only 29.
00:50:29He's not kind of at the end of his career.
00:50:30For Villa to have an asset like that, who is still clearly getting up to speed, is astonishing.
00:50:36And the fact that he's taking the penalty, it's a pressure penalty, that kind of tells you...
00:50:40He kind of grabs hold of the ball and says, you know, I've only been here a few weeks, but...
00:50:43I'll be doing this, thank you.
00:50:44Yeah, but it also speaks volumes of how the Villa players regard him, I think.
00:50:48It looked like the players were giving the ball to him.
00:50:50He wasn't demanding it, but the players, Tielemans in particular, threw it at him.
00:50:54It's like, you take it, we believe in you.
00:50:56And all the experience that he brings, players like Tyrone Minks,
00:50:59who, as we know, had a bit of a shocker on his debut in the Champions League at Bruges,
00:51:03gets a chance, and usually quite quickly, to kind of right the wrongs.
00:51:07And he did that with a great performance.
00:51:08Well, he did. I'm so pleased for him, and I think every player sympathises with him, you know,
00:51:13what happened in the first game at Bruges.
00:51:15But with his injury, the way he's come back, there were some scares in some games
00:51:19when he just fell on his knee again.
00:51:22But he stayed on the ground, and his defending is absolutely excellent.
00:51:25He's such an authority in this defence.
00:51:27But with, again, Unai Emery, he wants your defenders to clear the balls and make recoveries.
00:51:34In this case, actually, I thought he does his knee again.
00:51:37But also, the way he starts to play, but this is definitely the clearance.
00:51:41And we talked about Alisson Becker today having, you know, the game of his life.
00:51:45Tyrone Minks last night with this clearance will say something similar.
00:51:49Definitely at this stage of his career, this was one of the best performances of late.
00:51:52And, of course, you know, that gives them great confidence when they bring Bruges back to Villa Park.
00:51:58But this is a team that beat Atalanta 3-1 away from home.
00:52:02So they won't fear that.
00:52:03No, no, absolutely not.
00:52:04And I think this is when it's key to have someone like Unai Emery in there,
00:52:06somebody that's been hugely successful in Europe before,
00:52:08and he'll know that the tie isn't over, and he'll make sure that messaging goes to his players.
00:52:12I wonder if the new format is interesting because you wouldn't normally face a team
00:52:15that you face in the group stage, obviously the league phase, as quickly as this, would you?
00:52:20And there's quite a few of those that are potential match-ups.
00:52:23Yeah, Benfica and Barcelona as well obviously happen in the group phase.
00:52:25Yeah, it's one of the quirks, I suppose, of the new format,
00:52:28and teams are still working it out a little bit.
00:52:30That's one of the things that has made the Champions League feel a bit fresher,
00:52:34is that they don't know the rhythm of it just yet.
00:52:37They're still learning, along with all of us.
00:52:39Still working it out.
00:52:40La Liga leaders at Barcelona head it to Lisbon.
00:52:42He's just given it away there, Rory, for the first leg of their tie against Benfica.
00:52:46The two sides met in the league stage.
00:52:48They played out a modern classic back then.
00:52:52The stage is set.
00:52:54Two greats of the game.
00:52:55What a chance.
00:52:56Oh, Benfica have scored already.
00:52:59The perfect man to take the penalty for Barcelona.
00:53:02And it's more or less the perfect penalty.
00:53:05Oh, it's a real mix-up.
00:53:07Benfica have their lead back.
00:53:10Pavlides.
00:53:10Yes, he's got himself a head-trick.
00:53:14Goodness me, Barcelona have got a goal out of nowhere.
00:53:183-2.
00:53:21Ronald Araujo has put the ball into his own net.
00:53:23It is 4-3.
00:53:27The ball and Barcelona have that ball.
00:53:33Ferreira was in fouls and Barcelona clear.
00:53:38Raflides has won it for Barcelona.
00:53:41Your commentator is Simon Brotherton.
00:53:47Another nine-goal extravaganza is clearly too much to ask for, but there's so much to look forward to here.
00:53:53Only Liverpool outperformed Barcelona in the group stage, while Benfica squeezed past Monaco in the play-off round by the odd goal in seven.
00:54:01What a setting for a big Champions League night.
00:54:08The perfect stage for stars to shine.
00:54:13Amour underway in Lisbon.
00:54:20Homeside in a traditional red and white change strip for Barcelona this evening.
00:54:25As the hosts venture forward straight away.
00:54:27Oh, and almost a sensational start there.
00:54:30From Aptokolu, inside the penalty area.
00:54:33Inside the opening 20 seconds.
00:54:39Great start for Bruno Larch's team.
00:54:45Collected here by Dani Olmo.
00:54:47That was really nicely done.
00:54:49And Pedri sends the ball on its way.
00:54:51Lewandowski waits in the middle.
00:54:53Here comes Rafinha.
00:54:54Back out to Dani Olmo, who sends it wide.
00:54:58Well, you can't take your eyes off this one.
00:55:01La Minha Mal.
00:55:09Antonio Silva was there.
00:55:10KoundƩ tries to win it back.
00:55:12And sheer determination does.
00:55:15Barching into Kukju.
00:55:17Pedri.
00:55:19Into the center it goes.
00:55:20Almost there.
00:55:21Lewandowski.
00:55:22Magnificent double.
00:55:23Triple save from Anatoly Trubik.
00:55:27Olmo denied.
00:55:28Lewandowski denied.
00:55:29And La Minha Mal as well.
00:55:31All in the space of a few seconds.
00:55:33And now, surging.
00:55:39Powering up to the penalty area.
00:55:41Pavlidis, who's challenged right on the edge of the box.
00:55:45It's a red card.
00:55:46A straight red card.
00:55:48Inigo Martinez argues it.
00:55:51But Felix Zvaia, the referee, reached into his pocket and had no hesitation.
00:55:57Koubasi with the challenge right on the edge of the penalty area as Pavlidis trying to burst through.
00:56:05And Koubasi doesn't get any of the ball at all.
00:56:09And Barcelona, midway through the first half.
00:56:14And down to ten.
00:56:18Is this about to be a testing moment for Wojciech, Szczesny?
00:56:23It's Kukju for Benfica.
00:56:25Great save.
00:56:26And headed wide by Pavlidis as it spun his way.
00:56:30Okan Kukju with a terrific free kick.
00:56:34Szczesny equal to it.
00:56:35Szczesny, across it goes.
00:56:40Here's a chance.
00:56:41Szczesny's there again.
00:56:43This time it's Akto Koulu once more.
00:56:45And Benfica will have to come up with something pretty good to get the ball past Wojciech Szczesny this evening.
00:56:52A match without goals, but with talking points.
00:56:59Auschwitz going to spread the play away to Szczesny.
00:57:03Faced by Jules KoundƩ.
00:57:04Great support here.
00:57:06Carreras across and Pavlidis over the top.
00:57:10First good chance of the second half.
00:57:12And it falls to Benfica and to their top scorer, Vangelis Pavlidis.
00:57:19Barcelona backtracking rapidly here now.
00:57:23Schilder up.
00:57:24Auschwitz.
00:57:24Great save, Szczesny.
00:57:26And then just hooks it away.
00:57:28With Pavlidis waiting to pounce.
00:57:32More brilliant goalkeeping from Wojciech Szczesny.
00:57:38Valde.
00:57:39Couldn't find a way past Darl.
00:57:45Oh, and Antonio Silva's given it away.
00:57:47Will he be made to pay for that?
00:57:49Oh, he certainly will.
00:57:50It's a big, big mistake by the Benfica defender.
00:57:55The ten men of Barcelona lead with half an hour to go in this first leg.
00:58:00And Antonio Silva will have nightmares about that pass.
00:58:06Rafinha only needed half a chance there.
00:58:11It's Benfica nil.
00:58:12Barcelona one.
00:58:13Alvaro Carreras, who looks to turn defence into attack.
00:58:22Andrea Bellotti's underneath it.
00:58:24It's Bellotti who goes down under the challengers.
00:58:26Szczesny.
00:58:29He'll wait for confirmation.
00:58:31And as the check is made,
00:58:33as to whether this will be a penalty kick.
00:58:37Was Bellotti in an offside position?
00:58:40Well, the lines on the grass may be helping slightly there to...
00:58:43See, it was a close call as Bellotti battled for it
00:58:47and he knew that challenge was coming in from Szczesny.
00:58:51Benfica hoping for a penalty.
00:58:59Offside.
00:59:03Oh, it was close.
00:59:11Can I?
00:59:13Create one golden opportunity.
00:59:19And Toccoli across.
00:59:20Stretching for it was Rego.
00:59:23Well, it's just one of those nights for Bruno Laris and his team.
00:59:26Well, a good win for Barcelona.
00:59:32Down to ten men fairly early on.
00:59:35No debate about that one.
00:59:36Everybody happy with Cabassi's sending off?
00:59:38Well, he's proud Cabassi.
00:59:39He's probably not very happy about it.
00:59:40But it was a sending off.
00:59:42Yeah, he...
00:59:43It's hard not to feel sorry for him.
00:59:44He's very young.
00:59:45He's only 18.
00:59:45He's been such a star for them over the last two years.
00:59:48But he just times that wrong.
00:59:52They always keep that high line.
00:59:54You know, that's the danger of it.
00:59:55And I just couldn't disagree with this.
00:59:58I think this is sending off, for sure.
00:59:59Do you know, Barcelona have handed starts to 16 players of 18 years or younger this season,
01:00:05which is kind of the levels of Ajax in the mid-90s, which is scary for the future.
01:00:11Rafinha is one for the now, though, and his stats are very, very impressive.
01:00:14But does he fly under the radar a little bit with some of the other huge names that get all the attention?
01:00:18Well, we're just saying it's funny that if you look at kind of what he's delivering for Barcelona this season,
01:00:22the top of La Liga, they are in a great position to answer this goal to reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
01:00:27He has been an integral figure.
01:00:29He should really be in the conversation for the Ballon d'Or.
01:00:32And he won't be.
01:00:34Mohamed Salah will be maybe him.
01:00:36Could be Vinicius.
01:00:36Could be Mbappe.
01:00:37He will be one of the great big stars.
01:00:39Rafinha, Brazilian international, Barcelona's key player,
01:00:41basically isn't famous enough to win that sort of individual award.
01:00:46But if you look at what he's done this season,
01:00:48yeah, Pedri, Gavi, Laminya Mal, who wasn't great tonight,
01:00:51Troubar C, Alejandro Balde, this amazing crop of youngsters.
01:00:55But they're turning to Rafinha to deliver them when they're in trouble
01:00:57and to kind of turn games around.
01:01:00He's Hansi Flick's Swiss army knife.
01:01:02They're in the good half of the draw, if not the easier half of the draw, potentially.
01:01:07And, you know, should they go all the way and win the whole thing,
01:01:11would that not put him right up there?
01:01:12And could they do that?
01:01:13They could do, I think.
01:01:15Defensively, they're still a little bit susceptible
01:01:17and their form has fluctuated over the course of the season.
01:01:21They are good enough to do it.
01:01:22You've got Inter and Bayern on that side of the draw
01:01:24who'd be the big threats, I guess.
01:01:26But Barcelona will be looking at it and thinking
01:01:27there's a route to the final, definitely.
01:01:29OK.
01:01:29An All-La Liga affair next.
01:01:32An All-Madrid affair next.
01:01:34Atletico and Real have already played out two 1-1 draws this season.
01:01:37And things were also pretty tight in the two Champions League finals
01:01:41they famously contested.
01:01:42Back into the penalty here.
01:01:48And headers over the court.
01:01:49People letting go Madrid have taken the lead here.
01:01:52Here's Modric from the corner from the right.
01:01:55In there.
01:01:55Headed by Sergio Ramos.
01:01:58Shoots.
01:01:59BriggsƩ.
01:02:00Bale there.
01:02:00Bale is the winner in the Champions League finals.
01:02:04They are champions for the 10th time.
01:02:07It is Vladislav.
01:02:08Played in right-footed.
01:02:12Towards the near post.
01:02:12Glancing in to Ross.
01:02:13And it's over the line.
01:02:14Is it?
01:02:15Sergio Ramos has scored.
01:02:17Cool.
01:02:17There's a ball.
01:02:18There's an equaliser.
01:02:19And it's Carrasco.
01:02:20There's something to do.
01:02:21And we do have penalty kicks.
01:02:23Juan Fran.
01:02:23He's hit the post.
01:02:25Ronaldo.
01:02:27And once again, it's devastation for Atletico Madrid.
01:02:32Heartbreak for Atletico in those two then.
01:02:35But could this be the year they've changed the narrative?
01:02:37The iconic Bernabeu is the venue for the first leg.
01:02:40And Stephen Wyeth is your commentator.
01:02:43The finals account for two of the four Champions League ties between these sides.
01:02:48From which Real Madrid have always prevailed.
01:02:52For the holders, it's about preserving that dominance.
01:02:55Atletico aspire to settle scores on this stage.
01:02:59On the back of superior recent form.
01:03:01Real Madrid, the record winners, playing in what we used to call the European Cup for the 500th time tonight.
01:03:12Raheem Diaz gets it back from Mondi, who's made a little dart forward.
01:03:19Camavinga is heading towards the other full-back, the returning Belverde.
01:03:24Who's playing it in behind for Rodrigo.
01:03:26Brilliantly.
01:03:27Early chance here for Real Madrid.
01:03:29Taken splendidly.
01:03:31By Rodrigo.
01:03:34First attack of the game has resulted in the first goal of the tie.
01:03:40All too easy from a Real Madrid perspective.
01:03:45Atletico Madrid picked apart immediately at the start of the game.
01:03:50Inside four minutes in the Madrid derby in the Champions League.
01:03:56Real Madrid 1-0 up.
01:04:00Well, we thought it might be tight and tense.
01:04:04And tough to call.
01:04:06Real Madrid in other ideas.
01:04:08And Rodrigo is in behind again.
01:04:10Rodrigo, down he goes.
01:04:12Big claim for a penalty.
01:04:15Clermont Turpin has not seen it that way.
01:04:18But Javi Galat is having a torrid time already up against Rodrigo.
01:04:24Who got behind him for the goal.
01:04:26And goal side of him once more.
01:04:33Barrios turning.
01:04:36Griezmann instinctive with a pass that...
01:04:40...Ravres lets run for Depout.
01:04:45Here's Simeone.
01:04:46Get it away from Brahim Diaz.
01:04:48Simeone across the face of goal.
01:04:50Valverde to the rescue.
01:04:54Galat.
01:04:56Alvarez.
01:04:57Barrios.
01:04:59Best we've seen so far from Atletico Madrid.
01:05:03It's a really teasing ball...
01:05:06...that Lino very nearly managed to direct goalwards.
01:05:09...and this spell lead to an equalising goal.
01:05:16Javi Galat.
01:05:18Julian Alvarez.
01:05:21Still going.
01:05:22And going for goal.
01:05:25A stunning equaliser.
01:05:28Julian Alvarez.
01:05:30Atletico Madrid's in-form player...
01:05:33...has come up with something very special.
01:05:37A top quality goal apiece.
01:05:41Rodrigo's effort...
01:05:42...cancelled out...
01:05:44...by something of...
01:05:46...really outstanding world...
01:05:49...class ability from Julian Alvarez.
01:05:56Mondi.
01:05:58Vinicius Junior.
01:06:00Mondi.
01:06:01Brahim Diaz.
01:06:02Wrigling through and scoring.
01:06:09Real Madrid re-established their lead.
01:06:12Brahim Diaz with another big goal for them...
01:06:15...in the Champions League.
01:06:18Atletico Madrid will wonder though...
01:06:20...how he was able to find the space...
01:06:22...from which he could benefit.
01:06:26Brahim Diaz with his sixth goal of the season...
01:06:29...his second in the Champions League...
01:06:31...to put Real Madrid back in front.
01:06:36Atleti will feel on the balance of play...
01:06:38...since they scored their goal...
01:06:41...they don't now deserve to be behind again.
01:06:45Simeone for Griezmann.
01:06:48Courtois got fingers to it.
01:06:51Griezmann with the best sight of goal...
01:06:53...that Atleti have had since they fell behind again.
01:06:56It wasn't heading in but...
01:06:57...Thibaut Courtois made absolutely sure.
01:07:01Three additional minutes at the end of the 90.
01:07:05Lucas VƔsquez...
01:07:06...killing Mbappe.
01:07:08Could be a big moment in the tie.
01:07:12Mbappe again.
01:07:15Modric...
01:07:16...straight...
01:07:18...at Jan Oblak.
01:07:21Well might this just be a moment that Real Madrid...
01:07:23...regret in eight days time...
01:07:25...and Mbappe with Vinicius Junior to pick out...
01:07:29...didn't deliver.
01:07:31And Modric...
01:07:32...with plenty to aim at...
01:07:34...could find only the arms of the goalkeeper.
01:07:37Oh here's Vinicius Junior with some space to exploit.
01:07:46And a sense of determination...
01:07:48...matched by...
01:07:50...the desire of Jimenez to get back and block the effort.
01:07:53No one seriously expected anything to be decided tonight...
01:07:58...but it is advantage Real Madrid...
01:08:01...after the first leg...
01:08:03...full-time...
01:08:04...at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
01:08:07Real Madrid 2...
01:08:08...Atletico Madrid 1.
01:08:18Raheem Diaz was the difference maker...
01:08:21...according to the Spanish tabloid A.S.
01:08:23...who felt that Atletico dominated...
01:08:25...until the introduction of Luka Modric.
01:08:27Meanwhile Barcelona-based Sport...
01:08:29...couldn't resist a little dig...
01:08:30...calling the game a derby...
01:08:32...with incredible goals...
01:08:33...but little else.
01:08:35I'm not sure whether that's the opinion...
01:08:37...of my three esteemed guests...
01:08:38...but I think we can all agree...
01:08:39...Real do it again...
01:08:41...because Atletico were dominating that game.
01:08:43Yeah absolutely that's right...
01:08:44...and it's interesting for this game itself...
01:08:45...with Jude Bellingham being missing...
01:08:47...and you know the star power that Real Madrid have...
01:08:48...it was actually going to be two different players...
01:08:50...that made all the change for them.
01:08:52I think in Rodrigo...
01:08:53...and in Raheem Diaz...
01:08:54...they made such a big difference.
01:08:55Like Rodrigo's speed...
01:08:57...and his ability to just get on the front foot...
01:08:59...and try and take people on...
01:09:00...can he finish it?
01:09:01What a finish that is on his weaker foot.
01:09:03And I think that kind of set the tone...
01:09:04...for the early parts of the game...
01:09:05...and the left back for Atletico.
01:09:07I'll be honest I was concerned for him.
01:09:08I thought this could be a really really long night.
01:09:10And it didn't help here.
01:09:11After his ball from Rudiger...
01:09:12...what a touch this is.
01:09:14And he's on the right side of the defender.
01:09:15And if I would have given that...
01:09:17...I don't think that's going to be overturned...
01:09:18...to be honest.
01:09:19But you could see speed was causing...
01:09:21...a lot of issues for Atletico Madrid.
01:09:22And he was doing such a good job.
01:09:24And he isn't necessarily one of the main stars.
01:09:26And another player here in Raheem Diaz...
01:09:27...who came in for Jude Bellingham.
01:09:29Look at the desire.
01:09:30Look at the skill.
01:09:30Look at the tenacity.
01:09:31And the ability to go and try and make a difference.
01:09:34This is somebody that isn't playing every week for Real Madrid.
01:09:37But it's the derby.
01:09:38It's the Champions League.
01:09:39And as soon as that white shirt comes on...
01:09:40...some of these guys turn into superheroes.
01:09:42And again you just see the difference that they can make.
01:09:45They can put Atletico under pressure.
01:09:46But in fairness Atletico...
01:09:47...I think they're very good at soaking up pressure.
01:09:49But again we see Raheem Diaz here.
01:09:51It's the passing.
01:09:52It's the moving.
01:09:52Getting into key areas.
01:09:54And again what can you finish with?
01:09:55Well it's a bit different in terms of how he does it.
01:09:58But again on his weaker foot.
01:09:59Into the side netting.
01:10:00That's the 2-1.
01:10:01That's the winning goal.
01:10:03And that's something to take into that second game.
01:10:04Going away to Atletico.
01:10:06And does he give his manager a bit of a headache?
01:10:08How does it work when Bellingham comes back with Diaz?
01:10:10It's a big question.
01:10:11Because Raheem did nothing to suggest that he couldn't play in that second leg.
01:10:14I think Bellingham does come back in.
01:10:16But that's always the issue with Real is getting that balance.
01:10:18Bellingham said last week or a couple of weeks ago.
01:10:21That he described Rodrigo as the most talented player at Real Madrid.
01:10:25And that is a slightly risky political game to play when you have Vinicius there.
01:10:30When you have MbappƩ there.
01:10:31When you have Bellingham himself there.
01:10:33But I think there's a sense among quite a lot of the Real players that Rodrigo's work rate makes a huge difference.
01:10:40Because MbappƩ and Vinicius are not the most assiduous trackers back.
01:10:44Tracker backers?
01:10:45I don't know how you say it.
01:10:46But they don't do a lot of that.
01:10:48Rodrigo does.
01:10:49And I think Bellingham was maybe making a point possibly to Vinicius and MbappƩ.
01:10:53And certainly to Ancelotti.
01:10:54That Real are better when Rodrigo's in the team.
01:10:57Often he's the easiest one to drop.
01:10:59If you want to make them a little bit more solid.
01:11:00A little bit more defensive.
01:11:01You play Fede Valverde there.
01:11:03And you drop Rodrigo.
01:11:04Because he's the least glittering star.
01:11:07I think Bellingham is making a point there.
01:11:09That actually we need him in the team.
01:11:10He's good at playing a bit of politics there.
01:11:12That's for sure isn't he?
01:11:13For Atletico, Alvarez certainly is a player who is incredibly important for them.
01:11:18The numbers are great.
01:11:19His whole impression on the game.
01:11:21Absolutely.
01:11:22Six goals in six games.
01:11:23But the entire team.
01:11:24You look at La Liga, the top three teams.
01:11:26It's so exciting to watch.
01:11:27And last night it was fun to watch.
01:11:28It's intense.
01:11:29And I think this tie is far from over.
01:11:31Of course the tie of the team that they will face in the quarterfinals.
01:11:35You could say is over.
01:11:36Because it's Arsenal who will take on one of the Madrids.
01:11:39Now two more ties to show you.
01:11:41After a brief tour of the sights and sounds of round of 16.
01:11:44So after an impressive victory over AC Milan in the playoffs,
01:12:13Feyenoord were hoping to land an unprecedented Champions League double
01:12:16when they took on Inter Milan.
01:12:18No side had won knockout ties against both clubs in the same season.
01:12:22Since that win at the San Siro,
01:12:24Robin Van Persie has taken over as Feyenoord's head coach.
01:12:26Mark Scott, watch this one.
01:12:30And a lot of the wide play going down the right-hand side
01:12:34with the natural wing back down free.
01:12:36So he's on to it here.
01:12:39And that's a good ball in.
01:12:40Terram, wonderful finish to put Inter in front.
01:12:46That's an excellent delivery and a predatory finish from Terram here.
01:12:54Instinctive stuff to guide it beyond Wellenreuter and in.
01:12:58Pavard's pass is poor.
01:13:06Put his head in where it hurts.
01:13:09Lautaro Martinez.
01:13:13Bastoni.
01:13:15Nicely done.
01:13:16And laid off for the hit, which came in from Jelenski.
01:13:19Martinez 2-0.
01:13:22And Inter well on course for the quarterfinals now.
01:13:26Courtesy of a cracker from their captain.
01:13:30Jelenski's hit was blocked by Modder,
01:13:32but they recycled it.
01:13:33And as soon as it came to Lautaro Martinez,
01:13:36he only had one thing on his mind to get a shot away.
01:13:39And what an arrow it was too.
01:13:41And what hope is there for Feyenoord now in this tie.
01:13:46Here's Osman.
01:13:47Ibrahim Osman.
01:13:48Good ball.
01:13:49Oh, should have been won back.
01:13:52Modder over the top.
01:13:54Man on loan from Brighton.
01:13:55Cut it back to the man who signed from Brighton.
01:13:59Off the bar and over the top.
01:14:01Robin van Persie in agony as were those supporters.
01:14:06They thought it was game on.
01:14:14Marcus Terrap.
01:14:17It goes over, but the referee's not going to give anything for that.
01:14:21It is being checked.
01:14:24And he has been told to have a look at it
01:14:27so this could spell real trouble for Feyenoord.
01:14:31Well, that angle is only going to lead to one decision, isn't it?
01:14:37It's a penalty and it's a chance for Inter to plant one foot
01:14:42in the last eight of the Champions League.
01:14:47Oh, Jelenski denied.
01:14:49Big save from Wellenreuter.
01:14:53Wellenreuter guessed right, went to his right
01:14:56and keeps it at 2-0.
01:15:02Lille were one of the stories of the league phase
01:15:04after they made the top eight on the final day.
01:15:06They headed to Germany for a first leg tie against Dortmund
01:15:09to be the competition's top scorer in the shape of striker,
01:15:13Seru Girassi.
01:15:14Commentary comes from Jonathan Pearce.
01:15:16Bryson's corner kick that will come away from goal right-footed.
01:15:24Higher than I thought it would be.
01:15:26Looking for Can and hit brilliantly in
01:15:28for the opening goal of the game by Karim Adeyemi.
01:15:31Call that so sweetly.
01:15:33It's a deserved goal for Borussia Dortmund.
01:15:35Really well struck.
01:15:37Adeyemi was waiting for the second ball
01:15:38and he really gave it some welly.
01:15:40This is a great crack.
01:15:42Low left foot.
01:15:43That's his favoured foot.
01:15:44Driven into the bottom corner.
01:15:45And that's his fifth goal this season
01:15:47in this competition in seven games.
01:15:54Alexandre.
01:15:59That's a good ball forward.
01:16:00Haraldson gets the ball out of his feet
01:16:03and equalises for Lille.
01:16:05Midway through the second half
01:16:06and it's been coming
01:16:08and he's been getting stronger in the game.
01:16:11There's the quick release to Haraldson
01:16:12and he took it ever so well.
01:16:15Had to clear his feet.
01:16:16Off balance
01:16:17and in it goes
01:16:18Hakon Haraldson
01:16:20who levels for Brynjanesio's side
01:16:23and Lille go away
01:16:24with a draw from a game
01:16:26they never look like getting anything out of.
01:16:30So Lille avoid defeat
01:16:31in his Champions League knockout game
01:16:33for the first time.
01:16:34They'll be hopeful of advancing
01:16:35to a quarter-final
01:16:35against Benfica
01:16:36or more likely Barcelona.
01:16:38Bayern and Inter
01:16:39are heading for a rematch
01:16:40of the 2010 final
01:16:41in the next round.
01:16:42On the other side of the draw
01:16:43Arsenal are set to meet
01:16:44opposition from Madrid
01:16:45whether it's Real or Atletico.
01:16:48And Liverpool's late winner
01:16:49boosts the chances
01:16:50of a potential
01:16:51all-Premier League tie
01:16:52against Aston Villa.
