00:00As a veteran, did you appreciate Tristan Kassas speaking up about it as well,

00:04or is that something maybe you want other players to keep behind the scenes?

00:07I look at it from a point of view, it's not my decision.

00:10I'm not out here to try and influence one person either way or not.

00:14And as I said, if it was my decision, I'm the closer.

00:19I'm doing this. But it's not.

00:21There's a competition, there's an active competition, no matter what.

00:24I think there's guys who have been in solidified roles that it's like,

00:27at the end of the day, you need to win that job.

00:29I come into camp every single time looking to win a job,

00:32whether it be just a spot on the roster, whether it be the ninth inning roll.

00:34That's my job. I'm trying to make a team every year.

00:37And that's where I feel like I can get the best for me.

00:39And I don't get that complacency kicking in.

00:41So, yeah, that's, yeah, I think it's just we leave all that stuff.

00:45And if you're good enough, you're good enough and you'll be there.

00:47Well, Liam, it's always fascinating to me because I come from the world of football.

00:52So, like, American, American.

00:55Yeah, American, American football.

00:59Alex Cora talked about Bregman as being a leader in the clubhouse.

01:02You seem like you have a unbelievable personality.

01:04Like if I was your teammate, you'd be a guy that has this great leadership quality.

01:09And but in football, you're you're always on the field and you can

01:13you can contribute every single game.

01:15Whereas a closer, you might not play a couple games.

01:18What's that like for being a leader when it whether it's a pitcher or DH

01:24or somebody who might not be on the field every day,

01:28somebody who's pitching a couple, you know, every five days.

01:31How do you lead in that way?

01:33And do guys kind of do they understand that and know that like, OK, guys can lead

01:39in a lot of different ways, even though they might not be on the field every day?

01:42Yeah, I think it's look, basically we're in the clubhouse for 12 hours a day pretty much.

01:46And so you're on the field for a very minute part of that.

01:49And that's where a lot of the leadership comes in.

01:51It's not always the on field.

01:53You don't see like the quarterbacks like, OK, directing things or that guy on the sideline,

01:57make sure they pick the guy up.

01:58It's a lot more in the clubhouse, whether it be after a bad at bat,

02:02after a bad inning, after a bad couple of days, a bad stretch.

02:05It's that guy that goes up and can kind of take control of that,

02:08but also let guys know when they're stepping out of line a little bit.

02:11That's that's where I feel like baseball is a little bit different,

02:13where it's a lot more clubhouse stuff.

02:15It's I'd say similar to kind of the way hockey is.

02:18It's like you have a period, OK, this guy messed up in that period.

02:21You'll see the guy go over, whether it be mid game, whether it be post game.

02:24It's like you see him go over as a reliever.

02:26I can't really go mid game.

02:28So it's you do what you can.

02:29But, yeah, I don't think I don't think playing is in the do it.

02:33You look at like a guy like Johnny Gomez.

02:34I feel like he was classified as a very, very good leader.

02:37And he was brought onto multiple teams, multiple World Series winning teams

02:40to be that guy while not playing an everyday role.

02:43So it's yeah, it's I think it's it's more about what making sure that the guys respect you,

02:48not just listen to you, but actually respect you in that regard.

02:51You don't want to be I'd much prefer to be respected than liked.

02:54Right. Is Alex Bregman that guy in an everyday role?

02:57Is he that kind of leader guy?

02:58That guy? Yeah, I believe so.

03:01I mean, I've spent a little bit of time with him here and a little bit of time earlier.

03:04But it's yeah, he's he's the guy you want to go to about anything baseball related.

03:09He is phenomenal.

03:10Like, it's incredible the knowledge that he has.

03:12I mean, he was rattling off things that I did in 2017 the other night.

03:16And I'm like, yeah, we had this, this and this.

03:17And he's like, oh, that's cool.

03:21I didn't know any of that.

03:22But that's great.

03:24But yeah, it's like he's he's phenomenal that I think both him and Bueller

03:27bring that sort of arrogance and confidence.

03:29And yeah, it's bordering on arrogance as far as the way they they hold themselves.

03:34It's not that way in the clubhouse, but on field and the way they are approaching the game,

03:38it's it's it's borderlining arrogance.

03:39And I think that's going to be a great thing for this team

03:41because we do have a really young team.

03:43And with the amount of young guys on this team,

03:45they need to be able to see that that winning mentality come through every day.

03:49And seeing guys like that, that have won multiple World Series,

03:52it can definitely take hold.

03:59Did you get the sink put in the dugout?

04:01Because you asked last year that you wanted to be able to wash your hands more.

04:05So it was a portable one last year.

04:06They got it got done after my wife may or may not have mentioned it to a

04:11assistant GM strongly about, hey,

04:15you've got to give the cancer kid somewhere to wash his hands.

04:18Yep. So, yeah, we went out there.

04:21Yeah, there was one over there now.

04:22The hot water was scalding.

04:24So I found that out pretty early.

04:26And then, yeah, but it was out there.

04:28It was enjoyable. Good.

04:30And you're great on that.

04:32Cancer free. Yeah.

04:33Yeah. So I have my blood work done before I came out here.

04:36I've got my my two year scan probably May 5th,

04:40just because the way it works around our schedule.

04:42And so, yeah, that'll be an off day at home.

04:45And in between two home series and get it done over there at Dana Farber,

04:48I think, get that knocked out.

04:50And that'll be my two year remission.

04:53Awesome. And it's a lot more fun than the alternative.
