00:00Malaysia has resources to renew public services, including retraining public servants for future needs,

00:10but does not have the political will to implement it, according to an economist.

00:16Chun Tin Fah from the University Health said,

00:19it is unrealistic to expect an increase in employment and output by hiring or placing public servants without providing proper training.

00:29In early February, former Minister of Health Khairi Jamaluddin suggested that Malaysia set up a government agency,

00:37as in the United States, to oversee and renew public services operations,

00:42without involving layoffs, on the contrary, suggesting relocation.

00:47Wang Chin Huat, a political scientist from the University of Sunway,

00:51agreed with Khairi that layoffs are not a solution.

00:56He told FMT that steps to adjust the number of public servants must be done strategically and with detailed planning.
