Manchester City: Is poor squad building to blame?

With Manchester City falling to defeat against both Liverpool and Real Madrid last week, we’ve taken a look at the makeup of their squad to try and assess if that is where the problem lies.

00:02and specifically Manchester City. Now either through mismanagement,

00:05exhaustion or lack of confidence or quality, City look bereft of ideas. Particularly when

00:10you take into account City's spending in January, with Omar Mahmoud, Abdukode Kusinov,

00:14Vital Reiss and Nico Gonzalez all coming in for substantial fees. Mahmoud does look to be a good

00:19buyer, with Gonzalez appearing effective, but Kusinov and Reiss were both brought as project

00:24defenders. Kusinov has been thrown at the deep end however, and is just barely keeping his head

00:28above water. So we're going to take a quick glance at their squad, to try and figure out

00:31where the problem lies. We're going to start with the injury list. Oscar Bob, Manuel Akanji,

00:35John Stones, Rodri and Erling Haaland are all out currently. The existing squad of many players are

00:40aging out of their prime. De Bruyne is a City legend, but he's been minimally effective all

00:44year and wasn't even picked for the game against Real Madrid, which would have been incomprehensible

00:49a year ago. Now it might just be that this is a bridge year. They're moving on from the old

00:53guard and bringing in new guys who haven't quite settled in yet. They need a win against Tottenham

00:57to avoid falling apart completely this season.
