00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name's Theo Hewson-Bertz and today I'm going out onto the streets of Manchester to ask people about the return of football to the city.
00:08Now already for a couple of weeks you've seen teams like Stockport and Oldham make their return to football after the summer break.
00:14But this weekend just gone we saw Manchester United and Manchester City play their first games of the new season.
00:19Now we're not so interested really in how they'll do on the pitch. That's not our job.
00:23You want to check Rich Faye's wonderful writing on our website to have a bit more context on those teams.
00:28What we're asking today is how it changes people's lives on a day-to-day basis.
00:33Are there arguments over the TV? Do they give up coming into the city over the course of the weekend?
00:38Does it make it a nightmare to plan and how does it affect their mood when their favourite team loses?
00:43Absolutely. When United or even City play at home the city's got a buzz about it on every side.
00:49And there's two great clubs in the world. Best city in the world.
00:52We've enough televisions at home to go to separate rooms and...
00:57Yeah but we both watch football don't we? Yeah we do. Yeah we do.
01:02There'll be no more Love Island or women's shows unfortunately.
01:06The wife you're watching. It'll all be football as soon as you wake up till we go to bed.
01:11Yeah actually the traffic makes me dread it a bit.
01:14My boyfriend works away and I get him Saturday and Sunday and I lost him Saturday and Sunday to the city on United so that was great another week to wait.
01:26I haven't seen yesterday and we saw so many shirts yesterday in London and that's the old traffic and old 75,000 people and they're talking about building a new one so it's a little bigger isn't it?
01:39Yeah well it's got to bring extra people in. The amount of people in the hotels that you can't get in when the football's on.
01:49So it makes fun if they're the city doesn't it?
01:53Yeah. Yeah. All day.
01:55We were getting started last night weren't we? Yeah.
01:57Gutted yeah. Very well as well.
01:59Seen changes but yeah. We was in a bad mood all night so on.

02:04That's pretty normal though to be in a bad mood after you had to lose.

02:06I think we have got used to it though a little bit.

02:13Yeah. And I go with my brother and dad sometimes as well. They've got season cuts so it's fine.
02:18Absolutely. We've got some good forward players in there.
02:20Cunha looks great. So I hope Nubamu looks a little bit fit so he looks a little bit fit the other day.
02:26But yeah. Hopefully Seen scores some goals as well.

02:33So I've missed weddings in the past. I've missed christenings. I've missed yeah.
02:36Birthday parties. Yeah. Missed quite a few things from Man Utd.
02:40Football has to come first. Absolutely.
02:42This football is a massive part of what makes this city a success.
02:45Andy Burnham said recently that he thought it had the potential to be the footballing capital of Europe.
02:50It certainly seems to be true in many many ways.
02:53Certainly in terms of the way that the fans here love the teams.
