00:00The BJP-led government at the centre in India has got the support of some key regional parties

00:09for a controversial bill that it seeks to pass in parliament, which would essentially

00:13clip the wings of the elected government in Delhi.

00:17Under that bill, there are two senior bureaucrats that could actually overrule Delhi's chief

00:21minister on crucial decisions.

00:23And that's the reason why the Aam Aadmi Party, led by Arvind Kejriwal, has been strongly

00:28pushing for support in the opposition camp on this bill, on the principle that this

00:33is not something that just concerns Delhi, but actually sets a very worrying precedent

00:38for other parts of the country as well.

00:40It does in the end undermine the spirit of federalism.

00:44But surprisingly, regional parties like Naveen Patnaik's BJD and Jagan Reddy's YSRCP, along

00:50with Chandrababu Naidu's TDP, have all announced that they're going to support the BJP-led

00:55government on this.

00:56It's particularly surprising from parties from Andhra Pradesh, like Jagan Reddy and

01:01Chandrababu Naidu, who had made federalism such a big political plank in the past for

01:06Andhra Pradesh.

01:07Today, they've completely reversed that position.

01:10In the end, how these parties take a stand on this bill is important because its ramifications

01:16are not just for Delhi.
