We spoke we were getting ready for Super Bowl 59. The
00:04
Philadelphia Eagles trying to stop the Kansas City Chiefs from
00:08
three peating. And boy did they 40 to 22 and it was not even
00:14
that close the slight underdog Philadelphia Eagles dominated
00:18
from the jump. This was 24 nothing at half a few
00:22
interceptions from Pat Mahomes saw him play the worst first
00:27
half of his career, a 34 nothing score as the result of
00:32
an Avanta Smith dagger shot from Jalen hurts at around midfield.
00:36
And there was no doubt to be had that the Eagles were going to
00:40
win the Super Bowl. Mahomes and the lead offense did stay out
00:45
there and found some statistics. It wasn't stat padding, but it
00:48
was garbage time Eagles had their backups in. And we saw the
00:53
Eagles finish off an incredibly dominant season Donnie and win
00:57
their second Lombardi trophy. Yeah, pretty incredible the way
01:00
this game played out. Now granted, I did have the
01:02
Philadelphia Eagles by double digits. But you see that 40 to
01:04
22 final score. It wasn't even that close. It was 40 to six at
01:08
one point late with about three minutes to go. And it was even
01:11
worse in the first half. If you would have told me before the
01:13
game Jalen hurts was going to play well, I would have felt
01:15
like yeah, that's what the expectations are a QBR rating
01:18
of 75 for that game. But Patrick Mahomes QBR rating for the
01:21
Super Bowl in 11. Never did I think that was going to happen
01:25
in a big moment like that. And why the Eagles defense which was
01:28
number one all season long at the Vic Fangio and the worry was
01:31
you give Andy Reid two weeks to prepare what's going to happen.
01:34
Typically you come up with aces and in this one they came up
01:37
Joe with who got about that this game was one in the trenches
01:41
dominant offense and defensive line effort. We talked about how
01:45
much quarterback pressures and sacks they got in terms of the
01:47
front seven for the Philadelphia Eagles. They dictated the tempo
01:51
from start to finish. And the biggest thing for me is that
01:54
once they jumped up 10 nothing in the first quarter it was
01:56
lights out they never looked back they built a 34 nothing
02:00
third quarter lead to your point it was garbage time in the second
02:04
half the turnovers Pat Mahomes look mortal. The two turnovers
02:07
the critical interceptions by Zach Bonner more importantly
02:11
Cooper Dejean to take it to the house really set the tone and
02:15
from that point on start to finish complete dominance best
02:18
team in the NFL we talked about in the pregame and they showed
02:22
out on Sunday yeah I think getting the you know we're gonna
02:25
expand on this game certainly and we'll talk about how the
02:28
Eagles did this the signs that some of us saw from Philadelphia
02:32
where we felt that them winning the Super Bowl was how this
02:35
season would end and what it means for this team historically
02:39
if anybody now agrees with what I was kind of saying in the lead
02:42
up to the game that they were going to be viewed as one of the
02:44
best teams in the history of this league but also what
02:48
happened to Kansas City you know Lee you said Lee see my
02:51
homes look mortal no he looked awful he would have killed to
02:55
look mortal in that football game it was as bad as he's ever
02:58
played and these two know that I will now be just throwing
03:03
statistic over statistic at them that initially understandably
03:06
everybody he wins score 32 if he needs to score 32 he'll score
03:11
35 if that's what they need well they needed him to do
03:14
anything anything in this game and he couldn't and this is why
03:20
this Super Bowl is as much about the excellence of
03:24
Philadelphia and how terrible this Chiefs football team
03:29
specifically on offense looked with 2 minutes and 31 seconds to
03:33
go my homes had 61 yards no touchdowns two picks Donnie I
03:41
believe I don't know if it was Eagle fan or Chiefs fans there
03:44
were chants for Carson Wentz in the Superdome. Yeah and also
03:47
you didn't even think he would even come out for like what
03:49
eight or 7 minutes left to go in the fourth quarter where he
03:51
was really able to pad his stats but it was just amazing
03:53
to see it's something we don't see that often the times where
03:56
Patrick Holmes looks bad maybe a couple Super Bowls ago
03:58
against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a ferocious pass rush and
04:01
then you saw the Philadelphia Eagles with a ferocious pass
04:03
rush understand this there's one thing between a pass rush and
04:06
a blitz where you have to sell out to get pressure on the
04:08
quarterback. The Eagles didn't blitz one time in the Super
04:10
Bowl and absolutely got home whenever they wanted to and it
04:13
was apparent Patrick Holmes one of the best quarterbacks we've
04:16
ever seen dropping back in the pocket worried about the front
04:18
four here taking his eyes instead of downfield to the
04:21
pass rush and that's a big issue and I always want to
04:23
bring this up too because two years ago the Philadelphia
04:26
Eagles have one of the best sack artist defenses in league
04:29
history with the front four. They played on an ice skating
04:32
rink. Imagine if it wasn't an ice skating rink would he have
04:35
been talking about a three-peat at this point for Patrick
04:37
Holmes and the Kansas City Chiefs, but you have to give
04:40
credit to like Vic Fangio has been one of the best defensive
04:42
coordinators in football for decades finally got his just do
04:45
with the Super Bowl ring. He was spectacular Joe on Sunday
04:49
made them completely one dimensional. They had no
04:51
rushing attack. They had 45 rushing yards on the ground.
04:54
25 of those are counted by Pat Mahomes scrambling. So you take
04:57
that out of the equation. You're talking about less than
04:59
30 yards rushing for the game and less than three yards per
05:03
carry out of both of those running backs Kareem Hunt and
05:06
Isaiah Pacheco three of 11 third down conversions. They
05:09
were forced to play from behind and critical third downs. You
05:13
become one dimensional. The offensive line breaks down. You
05:16
talk about Williams Nolan Smith. You talk about sweat. All of
05:20
those playmakers coming off the edge. Those two big bodies in
05:23
terms of Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter to get a push up front
05:27
collapse the pocket. That was the difference for the ball
05:30
game. And again when you force turnovers and they when they
05:33
had to run the football, they can run it whether it be Saquon
05:36
was held in check for the most part, but you couldn't contain
05:39
Jalen Hurts with 72 yards on the ground. They sustain drives
05:43
and that's the recipe to winning big matchups to run the
05:46
football, win the turnover battle, get quarterback
05:48
pressures and they did that on Sunday.
