00:00The Johor Bahru High Court on Thursday acquitted and discharged an unemployed man over a murder
00:06case in Senai five years ago.
00:0943-year-old S. Adinarayanan walked away a free man after the court found him not guilty
00:15of murdering 64-year-old T. Krishnan.
00:18The offence allegedly took place at a house along Jalan Senai Jaya Enam in Taman Senai
00:23Jaya between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. on August 3, 2020.
00:29The accused was charged under Section 302 of the penal code, which provides the death sentence
00:34or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, with at least 12 strokes of the cane.
00:39The victim's body was found inside the premises with injuries to the head and body.
00:44The court said the prosecution failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt, adding that
00:49there was no proof linking the accused with the weapon as his DNA was not found on it.
00:55The court said one of the prosecution's eyewitnesses had since died, which meant that the defence
01:00was unable to cross-examine his statement.
01:04The court said the witness had also said he could not clearly recall meeting the accused
01:09as he was intoxicated at the time.
