More than 700 'Marilyns' take the plunge in 12th annual charity swim

Hundreds of swimmers dressed like 1950s icon Marilyn Monroe have taken to the water at Brighton Beach. These Marilyn look-a-likes swam in record numbers raising a significant amount of money for cancer research.

00:06A sea of Marilyn Monroe look-a-likes in all their glamorous glory.

00:12Everybody say hi darling.

00:15In 2014, Sarah Tinney started the fundraiser in support and honour of her mum's cancer

00:22battle with 50 fellow Marilyns.

00:25Today they made a splash at Capacity with 765 stunners taking the plunge.

00:32I couldn't think of anything that you've seen today 12 years ago.

00:36This has exceeded my expectations and I think that I've usually got pretty big ideas but

00:41this is bigger and better than I could ever have thought.

00:46Some Marilyns have their own cancer battle and others are doing it for someone they love.

00:51But these bold and fabulous darlings are fighting for a good cause and they're having

00:56a very good time doing it.

00:58It's overwhelming and it's humbling and you just feel just so proud to be doing something

01:04that is doing good for so many people.

01:07To date, the Marilyn Jetty Swim has raised more than $1.5 million for Cancer Council

01:13SA, funding cancer prevention, support services and life-saving research.

01:19That's what we're here to do, try and find a cure for cancer and the only way that's

01:23going to happen is through research.
