00:00The 20% share of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, or NGCP, has now been bought by Maharlika Investment Corporation.
00:08There will be a voice in the public, and the government will also have an influence on the NGCP's decision.
00:16For more information on the news, let's go to Klayzel Pardilian of PTV.
00:22Yesterday, the broken appliances were assembled by the electrician Raul to earn and get through the months of expenses.
00:32In order for the price to be more affordable and for the supply of electricity to be more stable,
00:37Maharlika Investment Corporation started using the Maharlika Investment Fund for housing.
00:44This was followed by the purchase of 20%, or equivalent to more than Php19 billion,
00:51which is a share of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, or NGCP.
00:56The NGCP is a private corporation that runs the country's power grid and delivers electricity to plants
01:04towards power distributors like Meralko.
01:07The NGCP will give a seat to the Maharlika Investment Corporation.
01:12This means, said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.,
01:17that there will be a voice in the public, and the government will have an influence on the NGCP's decision
01:24to ensure a good supply and a stable supply of electricity.
01:28According to the Energy Department and MIC,
01:31the government will determine the right and appropriate time for the implementation of the NGCP's project.
01:38For example, the effect of the Mindanao-Visayas Interconnection Project of 2024
01:43resulted in a decrease of Php1 to Php2 in electricity in the spot market in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
01:51It can actually contribute to lowering prices because it addresses the constraints,
01:59the transmission constraints that drive prices up.
02:03So, as we roll out more of these projects,
02:07then there will be less obstacles in the supply of electricity.
02:17Now that the NGCP is a part of the government,
02:21the government is positive that transparency will be more secure.
02:25It will be easy to see if there are or if there are real obstacles that could disrupt the supply of electricity.
02:32The government expects to earn Php1.24 billion per year from this project.
02:39Once we identified energy as our top priority,
02:43we then decided to ask ourselves which part of that energy ecosystem
02:47in fact requires the most number of investment,
02:50the biggest amount of investment, and the highest impact.
02:54And that would be in the distribution lines.
