00:00The PNM recently told the nation that they are 69 years old. But 69 years of age does not mean to say that they have sense.
00:18Leader of Opposition Business, Wade Mark, as he began the Senate's debate of his motion, calling on the government to reaffirm its commitment to a legislative framework on parliamentary autonomy.
00:28During the PNM's 69th anniversary celebrations on Saturday, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley was critical of Opposition Leader Kamala Prasad Bissetta's harsh criticism of the administration led by former U.S. President Joe Biden.
00:43Prime Minister Rowley referenced the Opposition UNC's position regarding the scrapped Sandals Hotel project in Tobago.
00:51It is exactly that which is happening. Why the Opposition UNC has come out so obscenely and vulgarly and attached itself to the political campaign of an American political party to provoke the Venezuelan president and the government there to prevent them from cooperating with Trinidad and Tobago in the oil and gas business.
01:15In the Senate on Tuesday, Senator Mark raised his concerns about the administration led by Prime Minister Rowley and the new administration now being led by U.S. President Donald Trump.
01:45Senator Mark then made reference to the general election due this year.
02:16Whether they come three weeks from now, four weeks from now, ten weeks from now, August, September, October or November, whenever they call the elections, Mr. President, we give the undertaking to Trinidad and Tobago that the UNC government will bring into effect parliamentary autonomy in Trinidad and Tobago.
02:37Later in the debate, Attorney General Reginald L'Amour offered a direct response to Senator Mark.
02:43And the Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago swore to make one thing clear.
03:08I sat here and I could not believe what I was hearing. Now, this is not intended to disrespect the President of the United States, but we are a sovereign, independent Republican state. We do not give undertakings in this Parliament to leaders of other countries on the work that we intend to do for the people of this country.
03:30Attorney General L'Amour told the Senate, every democracy is shaped by its own political, economic and cultural realities.
