00:11Good morning, Connie, and good morning to all of our viewers who are with us this morning.
00:16Question number one, Dr. Q, for you.
00:19What are the signs of menopause?
00:21He's almost 49 years old and his skin is starting to hurt.
00:26He feels like he's about to bleed.
00:29Question from Rosalyn Dioso.
00:31Actually, menopause, Rosalyn, is a condition of a woman where she has no period for the whole year.
00:38But if you're 49 years old and you still have a little bit of bleeding that has become irregular,
00:44it means that you're in the perimenopausal period.
00:48It means that you're about to have menopause, your period is about to stop.
00:53Now, what does a woman feel in the perimenopausal period?
00:57First of all, her menstrual cycle becomes irregular.
01:01Sometimes, it's short, between two cycles.
01:04Sometimes, it's long, more than 35 days.
01:08If a woman bleeds, the blood flow can be very minimal.
01:14It can be just streaks of blood.
01:16Or it can be that she uses several pads of napkins per day.
01:22These are the common manifestations of a woman in the perimenopausal period.
01:27There are other symptoms like irritation of a woman.
01:31There is also a feeling of dryness of the skin of a woman in the perimenopausal stage.
01:43If a woman is fully breastfeeding, she is protected from getting pregnant in those six months.
01:50But if during those first six months, she menstruates after three or four months,
01:55when she menstruates, she can potentially get pregnant again.
01:59There are also women who breastfeed for two or three years and then get pregnant.
02:05It can happen because even if they breastfeed, they can ovulate, especially if they are regulating.
02:12Remember that when we fully breastfeed, we have what we call lactational amenorrhea.
02:18It means that when you are fully breastfeeding, you don't ovulate, but it's just the first six months.
02:23After that, you can get pregnant any time of the month that you have a period.
02:37There is no evidence that if you drink something sweet, your menstruation will be strong.
02:42But there is a correlation between the two.
02:45If you are a woman with diabetes or if you are overweight or obese,
02:52your estrogen level is high.
02:54If the lining of a woman's uterus is thick, we call it endometrium.
03:00There will be endometrial hyperplasia if they are diabetic or obese.
03:04If you drink something sweet, your blood sugar will increase.
03:10It means that you won't be able to control your diabetes or mellitus.
03:14Of course, if you are overweight, you will have a hyperestrogenic state.
03:19You produce a lot of estrogen and that estrogen will thicken the lining of the uterus.
03:24If the lining of the uterus is thick, if a woman has a period, the flow will be too strong.
