00:00Welcome to Paglalang Pinoy TV!
00:04Meanwhile, Doc Oye, our Internist and Health and Wellness Doctor is here to answer
00:09some of the health-related questions that you sent us on our Facebook page.
00:13Good morning and happy, happy new year to you, Doc Oye!
00:17Good morning and happy new year to all of our listeners who tuned in this morning.
00:22First question for you, Doc, from Mariebeth Arpon.
00:25Has epilepsy been known forever?
00:29Mariebeth, epilepsy can be controlled, especially if there are a lot of medicines
00:36and the combination or dosage of medicines given to you by your neurologist is sufficient.
00:42But lifestyle and nutrition are also important.
00:46Why does epilepsy attack more often?
00:51First of all, your diet.
00:55It's better if we increase, you know, Mariebeth, what we call ketogenic diet.
01:02That's one of the things we use for those who have intractable seizures.
01:08Because what produces a high amount of fats or fatty acids in our body,
01:14that's what we call ketones.
01:17These ketones, or when our body is in ketosis,
01:20this is a good source of energy for our brain, right?
01:25The same goes for lifestyle.
01:27If you sleep erratically, or you lack sleep, or you sweat a lot,
01:32this is also one of the things that can trigger,
01:34that even if you have a maintenance medicine for seizures or epilepsy,
01:38you can still have an attack.
01:41That's why it's important to have regular and sufficient hours of sleep.
01:46Next question, question from Crisanta.
01:48Are decaf or no-sugar soft drinks safe for those with diabetes?
01:54Coffee or soft drinks, these are what we call simple refined sugars or carbohydrates.
02:00When it enters our body, it's like sugar.
02:05There's no conversion that can be done yet.
02:07And this will be the reason why insulin will suddenly surge,
02:11or the release of insulin in your pancreas.
02:14If you drink or eat this often,
02:18it will make it easier for our pancreas to be exhausted.
02:25So when the time comes, there will be no more insulin production.
02:29So you just have to rely on medicine,
02:32or you will be insulin-dependent,
02:34just to control the sugar in your blood.
