00:12characters in a stylized way. It is thought to have originated alongside the earliest

00:19Chinese characters discovered to date, namely oracle bone inscriptions from the Shang dynasty

00:25at 16th to 11th century BC in Anyang, Henan province.

00:33There are five major styles of script. Regular, kai shu, running, xing shu, cursive, cao shu,

00:43clerical, li shu, and seal, zhuan shu. Four essential pieces of equipment are used. Brush,

00:53ink, paper, and inkstone. Collectively, these are known as the four treasures of the study.
