What do Americans expect from the new Trump era?

In a swing county of the swing state of Pennsylvania, DW heard what Donald Trump's supporters and critics expect of the next four years.

00:08These opinions reflect the diverse character of the city.

00:12In Lancaster, the results between Trump and Harris were very close.

00:16Here, it is easy to find people with totally different views about the new Trump administration.

00:23The feeling in this theatre tonight is decidedly negative about the next four years.

00:28Most of the people here are Democrats. They came to watch a classic movie

00:32about life and death. Topics that seem to be particularly relevant to them right now.

00:38Trump being inaugurated again, seeing a movie about

00:42death seems sort of appropriate.

00:46He's unpredictable and he does crazy things just to be crazy and, you know, we'll see what happens.

00:53I'm trying not to be upset with him until he gives me reasons to be upset.

00:56Obviously, I'm not thrilled with the result of the election.

01:01Just a few blocks away, at a local gun store, the mood is very different.

01:06People here are looking forward to the future with Trump.

01:09We have people that don't like Trump. You don't have to like Trump,

01:12okay, but he was elected and I think he will be very successful.

01:16He is the one that's going to best change the world back to what it used to be.

01:19We're going to have more energy independence.

01:21We're going to have lower prices and people are going to be able to flourish.

01:25Some of them can't hide their excitement.

01:27Oh, I think he's going to kick ass because he's already been in it for

01:31four years and he knows who to put in and how to grab the wheel.

01:38But many people here in Lancaster don't want to focus on what divides them politically.

01:42They want to get along and happily share a drink.

01:45I actually voted for Trump and then I voted for Biden and I went back to Trump.

01:50But it was probably one of the hardest decisions I made.

01:54I campaigned for the Kamala campaign so I'm very disappointed.

01:58I have many friends who are heartbroken. I care a lot about the environment.

02:02So whether Republican or Democrat,

02:04the conversation isn't over and they're not giving up on each other.
