00:15before once again leaping into the lands between via this unexpected addition to Elden Ring.

00:38No Miyazaki.

00:46To Soulsborne fans, Miyazaki is a god.

00:50He's directed the likes of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro and Elden Ring, all titles

00:56that would go on to define the gaming scene with their quality.

00:59The man clearly knows what he's doing, so the fact he's not returning for Night Reign

01:03left a few feeling trepidatious.

01:06After all, the last time Miyazaki took a backseat to a Souls game, Dark Souls 2 was the result.

01:11Which has its devoted fanbase, but it is far from the most beloved in the franchise.

01:16To play devil's advocate, Night Reign is a much smaller game, with all the tension

01:20being put towards its new style of gameplay, as opposed to an exploration of a vast rich

01:25world.

01:26The game is being directed by one Junya Ishizaki, who helped design levels and combat for both

01:30Bloodborne and Elden Ring.

01:32Given the kind of game Night Reign is boasting itself to be, maybe this was for the best.

01:37Besides, now Miyazaki can get to work on designing his dream Poison Swamp game.

01:48Spirit Ashes.

01:49Kinda.

01:50The spectral summons used throughout Elden Ring's campaign often made the difference

01:54between a boss fight being impossible, and a cakewalk.

01:57And it seems they will be making a grand return in Night Reign.

02:01Sort of.

02:02Seems that one of the game's various classes is going to be relying on the Spirit Ashes

02:05to serve as its main source of attack.

02:07So for those who can't venture out past the round table hold without summoning their

02:11mimic tier, there may still be hope.

02:14Procedurally Generated World.

02:24Welcome to Limveld.

02:26No, not Limgrave.

02:28Limveld.

02:29Allegedly, this condensed area exists in a parallel reality following the events of The

02:33Shattering.

02:34With Night Reign fully embracing the roguelike genre, your every run is guaranteed to be

02:39different.

02:40And with its limited scope in comparison to the mainline game, you can be sure that Limveld

02:44will be quick to change its scenery as you venture forth on your mission to defeat the

02:48Night Lord.

02:49The exact geography remains unknown for now, but we're eager to see just how many locales

02:53from the lands between appear, or at least serve as inspiration to this amalgamated world.

03:10Runes.

03:16Speed is key in Night Reign, given that you only have a certain amount of time to gather

03:20your gear before a boss descends upon you, which doesn't leave much in the way of gathering

03:25runes to invest in certain stats.

03:27Rune farming has very much been streamlined, with players instead levelling up across the

03:32board instead of maximising a key aspect of their tarnished.

03:35Thankfully every character class can wield every kind of weapon in the game, so nothing

03:39is off limits when undertaking a fresh run.

03:42This certainly feels like it could be a bit of a risk, or at least could be seen as a

03:45step back, given how Elden Ring essentially turned every player into a build fanatic.

03:56Stand Alone.

04:05That's right, this is not an additional DLC, nor is it a sequel.

04:09Night Reign is its own beast, a spin-off that doesn't require you to have played the

04:13original Elden Ring, though it will certainly help.

04:16Honestly, we're still shocked this is even a thing.

04:19While Soulsborne games have always experimented with various styles of gameplay, such as PvP,

04:24this is the most radical departure to date, though if it succeeds and maintains the From

04:29Software brand of excellence, we're likely going to see a few more of these popping up.

04:39Co-Op and Single Player.

04:50Night Reign's main selling point remains its emphasis on cooperative action.

04:54A party of three will be dropped off into Lindveld, and have to hack, slash and stab

04:58their way through its trials in order to complete a run.

05:01However, it turns out those that prefer the maidenless path aren't out of luck just yet,

05:06as the developers have confirmed that single player is indeed an option, with enemy health

05:10being adjusted accordingly.

05:12How well this works in practice remains to be seen, but here's hoping both playstyles

05:16offer the same level of thrills and immersion.

05:24Release Date.

05:25It's out this year.

05:26Yeah, we're shocked too.

05:28While we haven't got a specific date as of the time of writing, it's crazy to think that

05:32From Soft were already tinkering away at yet another project.

05:36Sure, the smaller scale certainly means less manpower and a shorter development time.

05:40But these guys only just released the colossal Shadow of the Urg Tree DLC last year.

05:46They just refused to stop cooking.

05:48Eight Classes.

05:56As stated before, builds aren't exactly a thing in this game.

05:59There is, however, variety, and they come in the form of eight distinct classes, each

06:04with their own strengths, weaknesses, and ultimate abilities.

06:08These include Wilder, the jack-of-all-trades all-rounder, the speedy and sharp Duchess,

06:13the ranged spellcaster Recluse, as well as the winged, bird-faced Guardian acting as

06:17the resident tank.

06:18Given how all weapons are available across the board, this at least offers options as

06:22well as an incentive to try something new when starting another run.

06:32Three Days, Three Nights.

06:38This is the crux of Night Reign's gameplay.

06:41Three days of hunting, gathering runes, slicing apart enemies, all the while Limvald starts

06:46to shrink around us via deadly rain that gradually limits the field of play.

06:50All this leads to Nightfall, wherein players can expect to find themselves taking on unique

06:55bosses.

06:56Survive this, and by the third cycle, you'll be tasked with taking on one of eight Superbosses

07:00who all bear the moniker of Nightlord.

07:03It's a simple enough gameplay loop that hopefully has enough enduring appeal to keep us hooked.

07:13The Bosses.

07:20This is the big one.

07:22Bosses are the bread and butter by which every game that dips its toe into the Souls genre

07:27is measured.

07:28The familiar narration of Margit the Fel Omen is always welcome, but the real draw here

07:33was found in Night Reign's trailer.

07:35A hooded figure that bears an uncanny resemblance to the Fire Keeper?

07:38The Goat himself, the Nameless King, casually flying around on his Wyvern?

07:43The fact Night Reign might play host to bosses from all across the Souls franchise has us

07:48more than a little excited.

07:50Alongside a fresh host of original foes, we can't wait to see who joins the roster.
