00:08Severe thunderstorms swept across New South Wales overnight and into today,
00:12prompting over 2,250 calls to the SES and causing widespread damage.
00:18A man in his 80s tragically died in Cowra after a tree fell on his vehicle,
00:23while four others were injured in Bowman when strong winds flipped their demountable huts.
00:27You're seeing vision from the SES clean-up zone in Wagga.
00:31The storms brought down trees and power lines, damaged homes,
00:35and left more than 143,000 power connections without electricity.
00:42We experienced a significant severe thunderstorm that went right through the Riverina,
00:48impacting a lot of the towns throughout the Riverina, particularly the Wagga community.
00:54We experienced over 180 incidents for help.
00:57This mainly related to trees down along our roads and in backyards,
01:02but also due to fallen power lines and fence and wind damage that occurred on properties.
01:09We've had our SES volunteers, as well as our other agencies,
01:14that have attended to support the community,
01:16and we continue to attend the jobs out in the field
01:20and trying to provide that support to the community.
01:23A flood watch has been issued by BOM, with minor flooding possible for
01:28Orara, Coffs Coast, Bellinger and Kalang River catchments,
01:32Manning and Gloucester, Mile River, Karua River,
01:35Wollombi Brook and Lower Hunter, Patterson and Williams Rivers.
