Sun's out, rain's in. Josette Deonanan gives us the details in our weather forecast.
Transcript
00:00Well, it seems as though we got a little bit of everything today, a cold morning, sunshine
00:05and rain.
00:06So here's Josette to tell us what we can expect for tonight and tomorrow.
00:11Thanks Disha and you're absolutely right, we really got a bit of everything today.
00:16This morning started off cold, places like Diego Martin, San Gregrande and other hilly
00:21and other forested areas felt temperatures as low as 19 degrees.
00:25That's the coldest we've seen thus far this year.
00:28It's also a cold front that's passing through from our neighbors in the north and the northwest.
00:32Then the sunshine came out afterwards and we thought, no need for the umbrella.
00:36But by afternoon, the rain had other plans.
00:39Some of you, especially in downtown Port of Spain, probably even found yourselves drenched.
00:44Despite the rain, temperatures still climbed to an even 31 degrees across both islands.
00:49Now for tonight, it is looking much calmer.
00:52Skies should stay mostly fair with temperatures dipping to around 22 degrees in Trinidad.
00:57If you're in San Gregrande or Toco, it's going to feel even cooler.
01:01Tobago, you will see lows of about 24 degrees, so it's perfect for a cozy evening.
01:06Tomorrow, sunrise will be at 6.27 in Trinidad and 6.26 in Tobago.
01:12Sunset wraps up the day at 6 o'clock on the dot in Trinidad and 5.56 in Tobago.
01:18But here is the big question.
01:20Will tomorrow be as unpredictable as today?
01:23And the answer is yes.
01:25Here's why.
01:26La Nina is here and she is finally stirring things up.
01:29This global climate phenomenon brings cooler-than-normal sea surface temperatures in the Pacific.
01:34And for us here in Trinidad and Tobago, it means wetter-than-usual conditions even during
01:39our dry season.
01:40So for tomorrow, we're expecting partly cloudy skies with light to moderate showers
01:44popping up in different areas.
01:47Hilly spots like Arima or Charlottesville could see an isolated heavy shower in the
01:51afternoon.
01:52Storms like these are expected to continue into March, so maybe keep an umbrella packed
01:57away in your bag just in case.
01:59Temperatures should climb to around 31 degrees even in both islands, so it's still going
02:03to feel a bit warm in between all the rain.
02:06Now, for those of you heading to the beach or out to sea, the waters will be moderate
02:10with waves in open waters reaching heights of 2 meters and a calmer 1 meter in some sheltered
02:15areas.
02:17That being said, we do have a presence of long-period northerly swells and all marine
02:22interests are advised to exercise caution near those northern coastal areas.
02:26So here's a quick check-in with your tide times.
02:40Now zooming out internationally, the wildfires in Los Angeles County are worsening.
02:45The Palisades Fire alone has burned over 17,000 acres, becoming one of the most destructive
02:50wildfires in the area's history.
02:53Tragically, five lives have been lost, over 1,000 structures destroyed and 180,000 people
02:59forced to evacuate.
03:01This fire isn't the only one.
03:03The Eaton, Hearst, Lydia and Sunset fires are also burning with very little containment.
03:09Firefighters are working around the clock, but the scale of the devastation is overwhelming.
03:14Our thoughts are with everyone affected.
03:17And that's it for me tonight.
03:19Whether it's chilly mornings, surprise showers or the ongoing wildfire crisis, there's plenty
03:24happening in the world of weather.
03:26Stay tuned for more news and updates right after this break.
