00:00
But let's begin with, of course, the news story that's happening here in the United
00:04
States, which, of course, in California, the wildfires that have just basically ravaged
00:09
all of Southern California, including Pacific Palisades and some of Malibu.
00:14
The NFL right now has a game to play on Monday night, so it certainly affects things too
00:18
as far as whether or not that Monday night game will be played in Los Angeles.
00:22
The NFL right now says that the game is on track still to be played, but if they have
00:27
to move the game from L.A. on Monday, it will be moved to Glendale, Arizona.
00:33
So this coming from the NFL officially late yesterday, you know, certainly this is not
00:38
the contingency plan that you have to even want to talk about at this point.
00:42
And so many lives have been affected with houses just basically burning down left and
00:47
right over the last 48 hours.
00:49
There is some good news, by the way, this morning, is that the mandatory evacuations
00:53
and things like that for Hollywood, California, have been lifted.
00:57
So maybe there is some positivity to come out of this over the next couple of days.
01:01
All right.
01:02
Now let's get to the latest in the National Basketball Association and the Cleveland Cavaliers
01:06
clearly imposing their will yesterday as potentially the best team in all of the NBA.
01:11
They beat the Oklahoma City Thunder last night, 129 to 122, and snapped OKC's 15-game winning
01:17
streak, a huge day once again for Cleveland as they're putting up points left and right.
01:22
Donovan Mitchell and company getting the job done.
01:25
As of right now, if you were to look at all the teams in the NBA and say, who has one
01:29
of the best chances to get out of the East, if it is not Boston, you would have to say
01:33
at this point it has been Cleveland.
01:35
They played the best basketball of any team in the league this season.
01:40
And Donovan Mitchell said it was a signature moment after the win.
01:44
I mean, it just speaks to our growth.
01:46
I told everybody after the game, like, you know, as a unit, we don't win this game last
01:50
year.
01:51
You look at J.A., you look at Evan, you look at D.G., Max, Karras, Ty Jerome, George, everybody,
01:59
Dean Wade, everybody that came in, you know, did something positive to affect the game,
02:04
whether it was scoring, rebounding, defending, whatever it may be.
02:07
And that's a team win.
02:08
That's what it's going to take for us to be the team we want to be.
02:11
And honestly, man, like, that's a big win.
02:13
You know, I think we're all excited about it.
02:14
And obviously, like I said, yeah, this is, you know, one game and no championships are
02:18
won tonight.
02:19
But it's something to be proud of.
02:21
All the talk of, you know, who's in the game and all-star game, like, I think those, you
02:26
know, Darius, Evan, J.A., I think they show why they should be in San Francisco, why we
02:30
should all be there.
02:32
I think there's no doubt.
02:33
I mean, you look at tonight, you know, this is each one, all three of them had an individual
02:39
impact in big moments to win us that game.
02:43
And I think it would be a shame if all four of us weren't there just because of the impact
02:49
we all have.
02:50
It's not just about one person.
02:51
This is a group thing.
02:52
And we showed it tonight on the big stage, and I'm really proud of everybody.
02:55
But those three in particular, they did their thing, and they carried us the way all-stars
03:01
do.
03:02
Once again, 129 to 122, the final.
03:05
If there are injury concerns in the NFL's wildcard weekend this weekend, it is definitely
03:10
the game between Green Bay and Philadelphia at this point.
03:12
Now, it looks like all systems go for Jalen Hurts, who practiced yesterday.
03:17
But we will know today, officially, if he is able to play this weekend.
03:22
Needless to say, the biggest issue this weekend could come from the Green Bay Packers quarterback,
03:28
Jordan Love, who had issues with his throwing arm and elbow last week against the Chicago
03:35
Bears.
03:36
Love met with the media yesterday and admitted he still has some pain in the elbow.
03:41
Hey, Jordan, I didn't hear the first part, but do you have flowing back fully or constantly?
03:46
Yes.
03:47
So, Jordan, why did they limit you?
03:50
Just based on my hand, getting back to it.
03:52
So, if the feeling's back, does it still hurt in any way, or how is it affecting you at
03:57
practice today?
03:58
Yeah, it's more my elbow.
03:59
More my elbow.
04:00
Covering that.
04:01
Soreness?
04:02
Yes.
04:03
Does it hurt when you throw?
04:04
Like, do you feel it when you're throwing?
04:10
Yeah.
04:12
Not the best news for the Packers, but we'll see what the practice reports say tomorrow.
04:16
Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers season is over, but John Lynch, the general manager
04:21
of San Francisco, is very hopeful to keep Brock Purdy around.
04:25
There was some discussion as to whether or not Purdy would be back with the 49ers or
04:29
even if they would extend him, and Lynch discussed that yesterday, saying he wants Purdy there
04:34
long term.
04:35
Well, listen, I think what we know about Brock is that he's our guy.
04:39
We've got, you know, we have interest in Brock being around here for a long, long time.
04:44
He's done so much for our organization.
04:46
He's won big games and, you know, had a little tougher task as we all did this year with
04:53
some of the things that happened throughout the course of the year.
04:56
We just never could string games where we were all together.
04:59
And through that, he continued to lead.
05:01
He continued to play at a high level.
05:02
So we have every interest in him being around.
05:06
You know, the way this thing goes, these press conferences are necessary, but always kind
05:10
of silly because Kyle's coaching.
05:12
We spend time together all the time, and there's big issues that affect the team, but he's
05:17
just getting off coaching.
05:18
He's had his door shut for two days doing exit interviews.
05:23
You know, we were just up, but we were talking about our players.
05:26
We'll have some time here in the coming weeks to sit together and put our whole plan together.
05:32
That's obviously a priority, that position, and, you know, we'll give it that attention.
05:38
That would be the future of the 49ers at quarterback put to rest this offseason if
05:42
they do extend Purdy.
05:43
Well, a game at the Orange Bowl tonight between Notre Dame and Penn State, which weather-wise
05:48
will feel like Happy Valley a little bit, temperatures in the 40 degrees mark here in
05:53
South Florida.
05:54
Penn State, one-and-a-half point underdogs tonight against Notre Dame, total of 45-and-a-half.
05:59
We have it covered for you, Scott Farrell, and all of the in-game coverage exclusively
06:02
here on SportsGrid starting tonight at 7.30 Eastern.
06:06
Meanwhile, Bill Belichick adds a new player through the portal.
06:10
It's UConn defensive lineman Price Yates.
06:12
He transfers to Bill Belichick's North Carolina Tar Heels.
06:16
He had six-and-a-half tackles for loss and three-and-a-half sacks last season.
06:20
Tyler Van Dyke is headed to his third school in three years.
06:24
He's now leaving Wisconsin to go to SMU.
06:26
He also played quarterback at the University of Miami.
06:28
And Alabama's wide receiver Jeremy Bernard says he's going to return to the team in 2025
06:33
and not transfer.
06:34
Also in the NBA last night, Jamal Murray and Russell Westbrook help out the Nuggets.
06:39
They route the Clippers 126-103.
06:42
Kawhi Leonard did not play in this game yesterday, not injury-related.
06:47
He flew back to Los Angeles to help his family deal with the fires and issues that were going
06:52
on in Southern California there.
06:53
Also Giannis 25-point-16 rebounds.
06:55
The Bucs beat the Spurs.
06:57
Final 121-105.
07:00
The Spurs finished 18-for-52 on three-pointers.
07:03
Tyrese Maxey, another big game, 29 points for him.
07:06
76ers beat Washington 109-103.
07:08
And the Knicks finally get a win after losing three in a row.
07:11
They beat the Toronto Raptors 112-98.
07:14
In college basketball last night, Ole Miss, the 23rd-ranked team in the country, beats
07:19
Arkansas by a final of 73-66.
07:23
John Calipari not going so well for things in Fayetteville these days.
07:28
He expressed his disappointment with not just the starters but the bench players, too.
07:31
We're the type of team.
07:33
We're a good team.
07:34
But everybody's got to play well.
07:35
All nine got to give us something.
07:37
They don't have to play out of their minds, but they can't play poorly.
07:41
And you can't have three play poorly, or four, or one not give you anything, and another
07:46
– we're going to have to play better as a group.
07:51
All right, now let's get to the latest with the Southeastern Conference, Alabama-South
07:56
Carolina.
07:57
Mark Sears, 22 points.
07:59
Number five, Alabama beats South Carolina 88-68.
08:02
They've won seven straight games.
08:04
Also, Zurich Phelps hit a go-ahead three.
08:06
Texas A&M rallies past number 17, Oklahoma.
08:09
And Eric Dixon had a nice second half to lead Villanova to a two-point win, 68-66, as they
08:15
beat the University of Connecticut.
