Coldest air of the winter lurks for eastern US next week

The coldest air of the winter is likely on the way as Siberian air lunges eastward next week after nosediving onto the Great Plains this weekend. A snow and ice storm is also likely across the South.

00:00The cold air does hold on here as we go then behind that storm system.

00:05And it's really going to take root across not only the northern tier of the nation,

00:08but also into the southern tier of the nation,

00:10which means those numbers are well below historical average.

00:14And if you look, that does spell the potential for snow or ice.

00:18Places like Houston, Texas, for example,

00:20could get in on that ice potential for us by the time we get into Tuesday.

00:25Look at how the numbers change for us.

00:27We're in the upper 60s Friday, feeling pretty mild.

00:29Even Saturday, fairly nice for us lower 60s.

00:32But we start to fall off Sunday into Monday when it gets cold

00:35and the ice threat comes Tuesday.
