00:00I think that was the that was the first prerequisite you know when we assembled
00:10in the room the writers room and for the second season the first thing I told the
00:15writers was let's just forget everything that has happened they just forget
00:19everything that we have done it's almost like we were writing a new show all
00:23together with this one character or these couple of characters who are
00:28surviving from the first season into the second season apart from that it was
00:32a completely fresh planet
00:58I still sit on the same chair, so nothing has changed in the outside world for him
01:04some things of course have changed in the house, some relationships have gotten a little better
01:09but his basic nature is still the same, but in the story a lot of new things happen
01:21that new challenges come up, it feels like the little experience he had from the old story
01:26the experience he had from the old story is working here but it's getting smaller
01:30something has become bigger than that, one thing which I think is the basic quality of Hathiram
01:37is that he has to know the truth, whether he is able to do something about it or not
01:42he is firm in that, rest a lot of things will be revealed in season 2
01:49There is a character called Meghna Barua, she is a police officer in Nagaland and Hathiram
02:02and Ansari find themselves in Nagaland having to deal with this police officer who is not
02:09very happy about them being here because she feels that they don't really understand the
02:16place but they are men and she's a woman and so she'll have to go through the
02:26casual sexism that comes with being a woman in a police force
02:34What really worked for the first season was that it was a completely fresh way of looking
02:48at things if I may say so myself and a completely fresh story, if you try to give the same thing
02:53to them again saying yeh toh aapko bahut pasand aaya tha na pichli baar, there is a diminishing
02:58marginal utility that comes into play, woh doosri baar mein nahi pasand aayega, what
03:02they liked about it was the freshness, what they liked about it was characters that they
03:06hadn't seen, was storyline that they hadn't seen, a way of looking at things that they
03:11haven't seen, you have to give them the same thing but stick to the values of it that made
03:20it work rather than oh I'm going to repeat this dialogue or I'm going to make this character
03:25do the same thing all over again, rather than that try and find the soul of what worked
03:32in the first season, the things that really made the first season special and try and
03:38give more of that you know
03:45Mujhe lagta hai ki season one mein bhi aapne dekha hua, he never follows that hierarchy
03:49in terms of ke usko majboori baat alag hai but usko havesha se, he is already a very
03:55liberated soul, woh bahut zyada sochta nahi hai, uska apna sahi galat hai aur usme baaki
04:04cheezon ko tarajo pe rakhta hai ki haan main jo sahi kar raha hu uska ek logic hai uske
04:10peeche but I think he is always in the seek of truth, that's it, baaki usko kuch jaana
04:15nahi hai, chahe wo situation ka truth ho, chahe wo insaan ka truth ho, chahe uska koi
04:33bahut upfront hai, usko bahut zyada game scheme karna nahi aata hai, jata hai uske?
04:39Of course jata hai, kyunki mujhe lagta hai koi bhi jo sajh bhoondega thoda sa toh force
04:44jo hai baaki aaspaas ji ki jo nahi chahate ki sajh baar aaye, uske khilaf hoti hai
04:49But what makes him Hathiram special and I mean I love the character and I love
04:53how Jaydeep has played the character and completely made it his own,
04:58bahut spiritually evolved aadmi hai Hathiram, in a very basic sort of way
05:02But you don't see him like that
05:03Yeah, you don't see him like that, you know when we talk of spiritually evolved characters
05:07we think of characters who you know who have very complex philosophies or
05:13Hathiram is not that, you know he's very basic, he's very clear about his right and wrong,
05:18he has a very strong moral compass and he sticks to that
05:21And no force in the world can ever make him change his stance on that
05:26Agar yeh sahi hai toh sahi hai, yeh galat hai toh galat hai
05:28No matter who you are standing in front of him telling him to do the other thing
05:33or to look the other way, he's not going to do that
05:35And that's what I really like about him, you know which is
05:38So when you ask the question of why Hathiram looks exactly the same,
05:43he hasn't changed or he behaves the same
05:45Uh, he's not, he's already reached that place in life
05:50He has already found that
05:52This zen space that we all hope to find in our lives
05:55Now that, oh okay, mera andar yeh restlessness, uske andar restlessness nahi hai
06:00Uske andar ek thairabh hai Hathiram ke andar
06:02Aur usko lagta hai yeh sahi hai toh mai is raste pe jaunga
06:04Aur yeh galat hai toh nahi jaunga
06:06And that's, that's who he is
06:08I'm a huge fan of Paatal Lok, season one
06:19So as a fan, to be a part of this season was really exciting
06:25What I didn't know as a, as a fan of the show
06:29Was the gift that Sudeep's writing is, you know, which I could only experience as an actor
06:38In his show
06:39So when I read, when I read the episodes
06:46Everything, everything is there in the writing
06:50And for an actor, there is nothing greater than that
06:55To play to your strengths and your weaknesses in fact
07:00When you, you know, encounter writing that is so rich
07:08And it, the full stop comes just when you want more
07:13There's an efficiency to the writing
07:16There's a, and even like some things like
07:21Somewhere, you know, Sudeep would write, ouch
07:26I've not seen that in any
07:29So to explain an ouch, you will write three more sentences
07:33That oh shit, this happened and this made you feel this way and ouch
07:36So that, but he didn't write those three sentences, it was just an ouch
07:40And it was exactly, it was exactly what one felt while reading it, you know
07:45So for me, it was just a treat to be able to walk into something
07:52Where every beat was already there in the blueprint
