00:00It was a spectacle worth waiting for in Paris as the Arc de Triomphe lit up for 2025

00:05in front of huge crowds, all eager to experience a unique moment.

00:12For this year, I wish you all a lot of happiness, healthy family, happy 2025.

00:20This year has been sometimes hard, sometimes very happy.

00:23There were the Olympics and other events, while it was sometimes harder for some families.

00:29I think today we have to turn the page and move on to 2025.

00:39and under the London Eye to admire the colourful display of fireworks.

00:43Further east, Germany was keen to turn the page on 2024.

00:50after the Magdeburg Christmas market attack and a gloomy economic outlook.

00:55I have enormous expectations.

00:59Last year was both a catastrophe and a dream.

01:09My wishes for this new year are peace.

01:13And then maybe a new beginning for Germany.

01:16It would be good to have a better year than last year.

01:32As the Ukraine war approaches its third anniversary,
