00:00A close call near the town of Moyston in Victoria's West.
00:06Is it sort of luck that these two places didn't get...
00:11Oh, absolutely.
00:12A barbecue hut destroyed and a water tank melted just metres from the front doorstep
00:18of a house.
00:19Yeah, very confronting for us to see people's private assets being affected, but yeah, unfortunately
00:25fire in this landscape will have this impact.
00:28We can see just how close the fire has come to this property.
00:32A combination of preparation and good luck has saved the house.
00:36But others were not so lucky.
00:39Authorities have confirmed three houses were destroyed near Moyston and there could be
00:43more.
00:44We won't really know their full impact until we can make it safe for impact assessment
00:48teams to come in, so not a very safe environment.
00:52They're a strong community, they'll rebuild and they'll get together and they'll support
00:57each other.
00:58While homes have mostly been spared, grazing land, sheds and hundreds of kilometres of
01:02fences have been destroyed.
01:04It's something Andy Nagorka is all too familiar with, after losing these same fences in the
01:10St Patrick's Day fire six years ago.
01:13So this is all pretty new fencing here that's been burned again.
01:16So we're bits of pros at re-fencing and clearing fire damage.
01:21Even these seemingly indestructible concrete troughs didn't escape.
01:25A lot of the poly fittings at the back of all the troughs that got burnt yesterday are
01:29melted so we need to, today's job is to get those back on board.
01:35Crews were back at work today, making the most of the cooler conditions to continue
01:40fighting the fire, and building fire breaks to prepare for the inevitable spike in temperatures
01:45this long summer will bring.
01:47We're very fortunate today we've got some lower conditions but this fire is far from
01:53over.
01:54Preparing for the trouble that looms over the horizon.
