Canberrans stocking up on seafood for Christmas Day lunch

All over the country, shoppers are picking up last minute gifts and food for Christmas Day. In Canberra, many are heading to seafood markets for the traditional prawns and oysters.

00:00It's no surprise that many are heading to their local market or grocer to grab some

00:06essentials before they celebrate with their loved ones for Christmas tomorrow.

00:10Many Canberrans journey to the markets in Fishwick to stock up ahead of the day that

00:14marks the holiday season.

00:16The owner of one of the local fish markets says prawns are consistently a favourite,

00:20but oysters have been particularly popular this year.

00:23Everyone loves buying oysters and prawns, it's quite surprising considering the economy.

00:29It's pretty good.

00:31The atmosphere is both festive and chaotic as many take advantage of the last day of

00:35shopping before most shops are set to close.

00:38And there's no shortage of the festive spirit.

00:40We wish you a yummy cherry, we wish you a yummy mango and yum yum berries.

00:48Just being able to be with the family, usually I think like most people you're sort of frantic

00:52during the year trying to rush between your job and your everyday life.

00:56While many Canberrans are celebrating Christmas Day here, it's notably quieter than usual

01:01as many venture to the south coast or outside of the region.
