Met Police to receive increased funding due to ‘increased protest activity’

00:06policing the capital, a Home Office Minister has confirmed. The increase in a special grant

00:12to compensate the Met and City of London Police for the additional security and other costs

00:18of policing was confirmed by Policing Minister Diana Johnson. As part of the 2025-26 police

00:25funding settlement, they will receive £255.2 million through the National and International

00:33Capital City Grant, an increase of £65 million compared to the 2024-25 settlement. The force

00:41has said that while it's grateful for the boost in the grant, the gap in overall funding

00:45remains. The Minister said the 34% cash increase was in part because of what she described
