00:54It is with profound sadness that the Minority Council extends our deepest
00:59condolences on the untimely passing of our colleague Lisa Morris-Julian, Member
01:06of Parliament for Davide O'Meara. The tragic fire that claimed her life
01:11and those of two close relatives has left us in shock and sorrow. Lisa was a
01:18woman of remarkable character whose infectious smile and genuine warmth
01:25touched all who met her. Her deep commitment to family, constituents and
01:32the People's National Movement was a testament to her compassionate
01:38spirit and selfless dedication to public service. Mr. Morris said Mrs. Morris-Julian
01:45was an inspiration to many. She carried out her duties with grace, humility and
01:52the determination inspiring everyone around her. On behalf of our families
01:58and the Tobago community, we offer heartfelt prayers to our loved ones, the
02:04people of Davide O'Meara and the PNM family as we navigate this immense loss.
02:11Education Secretary Zerisha Hackett said Mrs. Morris-Julian was dedicated
02:17to service which transcended party lines and death was not only heartbreaking
02:22but tragic. MP Morris-Julian was someone I saw as a mother and as a teacher first.
02:29Before she became a public figure, she was shaping lives, nurturing minds and
02:36giving of herself to others as teachers too. To me, that's how she will always be
02:42remembered as someone whose legacy is rooted in care, in compassion and in the
02:48desire to uplift those around her. Though we may have stood on different
02:53sides politically, I could never overlook her humanity, her love for her family and
03:00her belief in the power of education. Meantime, PDP leader Watson Duke, in
03:05offering his condolences, questioned if the death of the MP and her relatives
03:11was unnatural. Certainly, it seemed unnatural to me. Then I went back into
03:17recess and my mind began to think about the death of the former Minister of
03:24National Security, an avid swimmer drowned just before elections. My mind
03:32went back again to the great senior member of Todebu, who would have brought
03:45the PNM into the THA by his sheer commitment and financial sacrifices, just
03:56before the THA elections, died strangely. Mr. Duke said a higher power is at work.
04:03It is things like these and the bloodletting within our country among
04:09our citizens that makes me understand there's a higher power at work here. I want to ask
04:17those who are practicing that level of evil to please assist and stop it.
04:26Elections time is a time for the people to decide, not for the devil to decide
04:33which one, or for wicked men to decide which one. It is for the people to decide.
04:39We live in a country that is democratic and is a republic, and certainly the people in their numbers must make their decision.
