We're here at West End, Blackburn Road. This is the land, which is all the land for the
00:17
cemetery, so this side and this side. Blackburn Road runs across the bottom and over that
00:24
hill, Stannow Road. Twelve and a half thousand burial spaces, mainly for the Muslim community.
00:32
The community in Aldertwistle are fully against this and won't stop the cemetery. The reasons
00:38
being mainly, obviously, this beautiful greenbelt should be protected, flooding issues at the
00:45
bottom and obviously the traffic along Blackburn Road. So our objections are going in from
00:49
the general public. We've got a GoFundMe page, which is raising funds to get a legal
00:55
objection and we've also issued leaflets out to every resident within Aldertwistle to make
01:01
them aware of the application. The main objection is obviously protecting our greenbelt, but
01:06
also this land floods a lot, so I don't think it's the right type of land for a cemetery.
01:12
Stannow to the cemetery, we have a small committee that meets regularly every week to discuss
01:18
that week's work and then we have regular residence meetings, which we can have up to
01:24
two to three hundred people attend to inform the residents of everything, what we've been
01:28
doing. We think we've got a really good case.
