00:00If you think Winona Ryder is only famous for Stranger Things, let me catch you up.

00:04She's been acting since the 1980s with breakout roles in the original Beetlejuice and Heathers.

00:09In the early 90s, Ryder dated her Edward Scissorhands co-star Johnny Depp,

00:14starting when she was just 17 years old.

00:16She quickly became the 90s it girl, a grunge goth style icon of the 90s,

00:21both on and off the red carpet.

00:23People were obsessed with her adorable pixie haircut.

00:26She acted in two or three movies per year throughout the 90s,

00:29like Bram Stoker's Dracula and Alien Resurrection,

00:32and she really hit it big with her role alongside Angelina Jolie in Girl Interrupted in 1999.

00:38The real reason a lot of younger people might not be familiar with Ryder

00:41is that she was frequently painted in a negative light throughout the mid-2000s.

00:45She was caught shoplifting thousands of dollars worth of merchandise

00:49from a Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills in 2001,

00:52and the tabloid magazines absolutely flamed her for this.

00:55Not to mention that people absolutely hated this Adam Sandler movie she starred in

00:58called Mr. Deeds, which came out around the same time.

01:01She took a break from acting for a few years,

01:03and she just wasn't in the spotlight anymore when she returned in 2006.

01:07It was the first time a lot of younger people had ever heard of her,

01:10not knowing that she's been an award-winning actress and fashion icon this whole time.
