At the 'Nosferatu' premiere, director Robert Eggers talks about how Focus Features has been super supportive of keeping Count Orlock under wraps. Plus, he tells THR that he thanks SpongeBob for introducing younger people to 'Nosferatu.'

00:03a kind of a counter-programming on Christmas Day.

00:06What excites you most about that?

00:07Should I take the whole family?

00:08Definitely, definitely take the whole family.

00:11The younger, the better.

00:12Yeah.

00:13I mean, the final look of Count Orlok has been largely kept under wraps, except for

00:16some hands.

00:17I think we saw some eyes.

00:18Was that something you had to fight for in kind of the marketing?

00:21No, no.

00:22I mean, you know, Focus Features has been insanely supportive this whole way through

00:27and has given me a lot of creative control, and they understood the purpose of keeping

00:32Orlok under wraps.

00:35And also, by the way, like, if anyone was, like, unsure about it, the Long Legs campaign

00:40only proved the point, so.

00:42Right.

00:43Yeah, yeah.

00:44Have you seen that you can buy the Sarcophagus as a bed for $20,000, and would you ever?

00:50I couldn't afford one, but yes, I'm aware that...

00:52I think you might be able to in a couple weeks.

00:56One of my favorite Nosferatu fun facts is that a lot of younger people are introduced

01:05to the character through SpongeBob SquarePants.

01:08Do you know about this?

01:09I do.

01:10I know about it, yeah.

01:11Yeah.

01:12But, you know, there was a show called Muppet Babies when I was a kid that would play little

01:18clips of, like, Lon Chaney's Phantom of the Opera and early versions of Cyrano de Bergerac

01:26and stuff, and that actually, that weird cartoon, like, gave me exposure to a lot of movies

01:32that, like, I watched when I was a little older with memories from Muppet Babies.

01:36So thanks, SpongeBob.

01:37I think it's so fun.

01:39Well, given that it is the end of the year, what did you sink your teeth into this year?

01:43What was your favorite movie or performance of 2024?

01:46Shamefully, because I've been doing this thing, I haven't seen a lot of stuff, you know?

01:55I really want to see The Brutalist, haven't seen it yet, but, so while I haven't seen

02:01enough things, I would just say I really enjoyed The Substance, you know?

02:05And I really enjoyed Anora.

02:07But those are the only two movies I've seen this year, so.
