00:17The Court of Appeal today upheld the High Court's acquittal of Ahmad Zahid Hamadi in
00:21his foreign visa system corruption case as the prosecution had withdrawn its appeal.
00:27Justice Ruzima Ghazali, who chaired a three-member bench, struck out the appeal.
00:31Zahid was charged with 33 counts of receiving bribes totaling 13.6 million Singapore dollars
00:37from Altra Kirana Sindiran Berhad between 2014 and 2018, while he was Home Minister
00:42and Deputy Prime Minister under the previous Barisan Nasional Administration.
00:47He was also charged with seven other counts of obtaining for himself the sums of 1.15
00:52million Singapore dollars, 3 million ringgit, 15,000 Swiss francs, and 15,000 US dollars
00:58from the same company in connection with his official duties.
01:02On September 23, 2022, Justice Yazid Mustafa, then a High Court judge, acquitted Zahid of
01:07all 40 charges after ruling that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case
01:13against him.
