00:00Lin-Manuel Miranda is opening up about why he didn't return for Moana 2.
00:06Miranda, who wrote the music for 2016's Moana and received an Oscar nomination for the song
00:11How Far I'll Go, recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his latest work on Mufasa the Lion
00:16King, alongside the film's director, Barry Jenkins. When asked if he had to choose between
00:21working on the Lion King prequel and Moana 2, Miranda said this,
00:24It didn't line up that way, actually. I got the script for Mufasa when I just finished Encanto,
00:32and so I started working on that at the top of 22. So, you know, Moana 2 was already in process
00:40as a TV series with Emily and Abigail, so then when that decision got made to turn that into
00:45a movie, they were already, you know, already cooking. The Hamilton creator went on to praise
00:49Emily Bear and Abigail Barlow's music that they wrote for the sequel, as well as the film's star.
00:54Yeah, they're so talented, and you know, more than anything, what's so thrilling,
00:58you know, we hired Auli'i when she was 14 years old, and the stuff she's singing in this new film
01:04is so just technically difficult to see how far she's come as a performer. It's really extraordinary.
