00:00We have a specialist department which is for students that have difficulties, disabilities
00:07or diagnosis that might mean that they need specialist provision. In our department our
00:14courses are about life skills so we have four pillars, independence, health and well-being,
00:19community and employability and all students have individual targets and a person-centred
00:24journey. We look at where they're planning to go after ILS, whether that's on to further
00:29study or whether it's out into employment or to volunteering or day opportunities and
00:35we're always looking at how we can support students towards their target and making activities
00:42and experiences for them that can help them develop their independence not just on site
00:46here but also when they're at home as well. The independent living skills department of
00:51Coleg Gwent is so important to so many students and things like their Christmas fair gives
00:56them a real opportunity to experience real life business, social and manual skills that
01:00they can use again and again in the future. We have the ILS which stands for independent
01:07living skills Christmas fair today which the students have been very busy sourcing and
01:12making lots of items ready for sale and working very hard as well as costing and planning
01:20all of the activities they've also been selling now today and it's a great opportunity for
01:25us to have some in-house work experience for our current students but we also invite feeder
01:30schools and potential students that are thinking about coming to join us to the event so that
01:35they have an idea about what they might be doing next academic year. It's a great opportunity
01:40for people to share how different people are getting on, great opportunity for our current
01:46parents and carers to network with other people as well because we like any sort of connections
01:50that we make in college to go beyond because lots of people stay in these areas and they
01:55can make connections with people that can go on for the rest of their days really.
