00:16her for alleged abandonment of office.
00:19In South Korea, the National Assembly dismissed an impeachment motion against President Jun
00:25Suu Kyi, while thousands of people continue to demonstrate.
00:32And in Syria, the army denounces a disinformation media campaign orchestrated by terrorist groups
00:36aimed at destabilizing the country.
00:40Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisa Studios in Havana,
00:49Cuba.
00:50Breaking with the news.
00:51In Peru, President Dina Boluarte ruled out resigning after the opening of an investigation
00:56against her for alleged abandonment of office.
00:58The Peruvian president verified that she would complete her term of office, which expires
01:03on July 28, 2026, stating that the possibility of her resignation is not in her plans.
01:09In this regard, the Public Prosecutor's Office opened a preliminary investigation against
01:13Boluarte for alleged abandonment of office between June 29 and July 9, 2023, when she
01:22underwent a plastic surgery.
01:25To this must be added the fact that during her term in office, Boluarte raised her historic
01:29laws in popular approval.
01:36A survey carried out in September and made public on Sunday confirmed that the rejection
01:40of the administration of the President of Peru, Dina Boluarte, continues to increase.
01:45According to the survey, 90% of citizens disapprove the performance of the head of state, while
01:50the figure of acceptance is 5% of those polled.
01:54In the last month, the country has been shaken by crime and extortions that the current executive
01:58is unable to manage.
02:00These figures are released after two days of strikes by the transportation workers,
02:05who have called for a national strike of all sectors, and on Saturday announced a rupture
02:10of dialogue with legislators due to the refusal of Congress to repeal Law 32.108 and to file
02:17the law on urban terrorism.
02:25And in Venezuela, the International Colloquium of Ayacucho, 18-24-2024, on the model of unity,
02:30sovereignty and peace, opened this Saturday.
02:32The event, which will run until Sunday, is being held at the Romulo Gallegos Latin American
02:37Caribbean Studies Center Foundation.
02:39Visiting over 20 national and international keynote speakers, meeting participants will
02:44reflect on the historical significance of this historic battle.
02:48In his speech, Romulo Gallegos Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies Foundation
02:53President, Pedro Calzadilla, said the Ayacucho battle was a great instance of unity in the Americas.
03:05And in Colombia, the persecution and attacks suffered by young people during the social
03:08outbursts of 2019 continues.
03:11That is why they do not stop mobilizing.
03:13Let's see the following report.
03:18Joana González is a 26-year-old activist who is demonstrating in front of the Congress
03:23of the Republic in search of answers and guarantees for the disappearance of her sister Lizette,
03:29with whom she created the project Punto Renacer, a community communication collective to make
03:35visible social problems in the country.
03:40In the framework of all this, they made an invitation to my sister, they made an invitation
03:45to us to cover a mobilization.
03:48This mobilization was for the commemoration of April 28, which was being commemorated
03:53one year after the national strike of 2021.
03:57And it was under the premise that she would be back in 15 days.
04:03But Lizette did not return, just like many other young people.
04:09Her disappearance is part of a reality that many young activists have faced, and in which
04:14many others have suffered persecution for years, as is the case of young Alejandro Hernández,
04:20a front-line protester during the 2019 social outburst, who was held by the police and deprived
04:27of his freedom for almost 19 months.
04:33We have to take into account that it has not only been a persecution by the state, but
04:38also a stigmatization, because we are branded as vandals, as guerrillas, and so on.
04:44I was in a village in an activity of memory in a massacre that took place in La Pedregosa
04:50in Cauca, and I was kidnapped for the second time, because first I was kidnapped by the
04:59state, and the second time here, with these armed criminal forces on the margin of the
05:04law.
05:05I was kidnapped for three days by them.
05:07So there has been persecution from all sides.
05:17Despite this, young Alejandro continues to fight for his rights, just as he did when
05:21he took to the streets in 2019 to show his dissatisfaction with the health system because
05:27of a surgery he had been denied after a long process.
05:31Just like him, Daniela Cárcamo, who went out for the first time as an activist, continues
05:37to mobilize to make her voice heard and ask for her rights and those of other Colombians
05:42to be respected.
05:47People are too afraid to exercise their rights.
05:50People are afraid to even write a right of petition.
05:53Imagine how afraid people are to march.
05:56But the message to everyone would be that if you can, come with us, because that makes
06:00them attack us less.
06:02It makes the police respect us more.
06:04I remember that the indigenous collectives accompanied us after they saw that the police
06:08were beating us all over the place and shooting rubber bullets and all kinds of artifacts.
06:14The indigenous collectives accompanied us, and then the mothers came out, and then all
06:18the people came out.
06:20The police no longer felt they had the power to harm us.
06:28Daniela asks the population to accompany the young people to the streets, to fight for
06:33their rights, but above all, not to stigmatize them.
06:41And now we have a short break coming up, but first, remember you can join us on TikTok
06:45at Telesur English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates, and much
06:49more.
06:50When we come back, stay with us.
07:03Welcome back.

07:42constant support of CARICOM to Cuba in all international forums.
07:46Your open opposition to the economic bloc of the United States against our country,
07:50which has remained unchanged over time, the support and gestures of political and material

08:04and hurricanes.
08:05In a landmark operation on the Caucedo port near Santo Domingo, Dominican authorities
08:12have seized 9.5 tons of cocaine, marking the largest drug bust in the country's history.
08:18The second-biggest seizure on record was reported in 2006, when officials found more than 5,680
08:23pounds.
08:24On this occasion, the cocaine was hidden within two shipping containers filled with bananas.
08:29According to police authorities, the shipment came from Guatemala and was destined for Belgium.
08:34The estimated straight value of the confiscated drugs is around $250 million.
08:40Authorities have arrested 10 individuals linked to this operation.
08:43So far in 2024, Dominican law enforcement has confiscated nearly 47 tons of illegal
08:49drugs.
08:50South Korea's National Assembly has dismissed a censure motion against President Jun Suk
08:59Jeol, while thousands of people continue to demonstrate outside Parliament.
09:03After a first deliberation, the attempt to impeach the South Korean president fell for
09:07lack of the minimum quorum required because lawmakers from the ruling party left the hall.
09:12This occurred in the midst of corruption accusations for alleged interference in an inquiry on
09:16the First Lady, which is being settled in Parliament.
09:24Meanwhile in Ghana, people went to the polls on Saturday to elect a new president and 276
09:29members of the unicameral parliament for a four-year term.
09:32Since early morning, around 19 million registered voters went to the 40,000 polling stations
09:37set up across the country.
09:38Polling stations close at 5 p.m. local time.
09:41This year, 12 candidates are contesting the presidency.
09:43In the event no presidential candidate were to get a simple majority of votes, the two
09:48most voted ones would go to a runoff election.
10:08In Haiti, at least four people died and 27 others were injured after a flash flooding
10:13caused by heavy rains in several communities in the north-south and in the Grand-Anse department.
10:19According to the Civil Protection Department, the four fatalities on which two were young
10:22children occurred in Grand-Anse.
10:25Meanwhile, another four people were reported missing in the Danmarie commune, and there
10:30are reports of infrastructure damage in several communities, with at least 12,565 households
10:36affected.
10:37The authorities have deployed emergency units to provide assistance to the victims, as well
10:42as to deliver food and hygiene items to affected families.
10:46Also on Saturday, Russian armed forces liberated the settlement of Beretsky in Donetsk region.
10:55The action took place within the framework of the Russian special military operation
10:59launched in February 2022.
11:01According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Ukrainian forces lost 525 soldiers on the central

12:03Welcome back.
12:08The Lebanese government met with army commanders to assess the plan to deploy forces south
12:13of the Litany River.
12:15Interim Prime Minister Anjoum Mikadi led the meeting with military forces in the city of
12:18Tire.
12:19Authorities reviewed and approved the operational plan prepared by the army command to implement
12:23the deployment of the forces in the area.
12:25It is in the framework of a ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese resistance movement,
12:30Hezbollah.
12:31After almost 14 months of cross-border fire, the Lebanese interim prime minister recalled
12:36that the main objective is to advance in the reconstruction of the south in order to achieve
12:40stability in the Middle East region.
12:51The stability in the south and its reconstruction is the key to the stability in the Middle
12:55East region, to which security and safety will return only through the implementation
13:01of international resolutions and the protection of our homeland, land, and sovereignty.
13:10Over the last 24 hours, Israeli occupation forces killed at least 10 Palestinian civilians
13:15in airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.
13:16According to local and medical sources, several areas along the coastal enclave were targeted.
13:21Six of the civilians were killed in the southern Gaza town of Rafa.
13:24Two of the fatalities occurred in the city of Deir al-Bala in central Gaza, and two other
13:28occurred west of the city of Gaza.
13:30According to the latest health report, at least 44,600 Palestinians have been killed
13:35and only 105,900 wounded since October 7, 2023.
13:45Also in northern Gaza, at least 20 young people were killed when the genocidal Israeli troops
13:48attacked the Kamal Adwan Hospital again.
13:52Local authorities claim that since the start of the genocidal operation, they have been
13:55under attack.
13:56This last time, the war criminals parked tanks 50 meters from the hospital, then they entered
14:01the hospital in uniform, demanding everyone to evacuate the hospital and forcing people
14:05to run towards the tank guns.
14:07Minutes later, they opened fire.
14:09The World Health Organization denounced that no evacuation order was issued at any time,
14:13and they have confirmed that at least four members of the medical staff were killed.
14:22And amid the persistent destruction of hospitals and clinics, the Palestinian Health Ministry
14:26has called on the international community, non-governmental organizations, and the United
14:29Nations to take urgent measures to stop the Israeli aggression against Gaza.
14:34The Palestinian Health Ministry recalled that the systematic incursions against health facilities,
14:38healthcare workers, sick and wounded people are prohibited by international law.
14:43According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, at present only 17 of the 36 hospitals in
14:49Gaza are operational, but at a minimum capacity due to the lack of personnel, supplies, electricity
14:55and fuel.
15:01Palestinian authorities are denouncing new Israeli plans to seize over 2,400 hectares
15:05of land in the occupied West Bank as part of an expansion strategy in that territory.
15:10In a statement, Palestinian National Council officials condemned the recent announcement
15:14by Israel's finance minister, Bezalel Smotrych, who pledged to annex more Israeli settlements
15:19in the occupied West Bank by 2025, saying preparations are already underway.
15:24The Palestinian Council criticized the international silence in the face of the actions of Israel
15:28and its partners.
15:29It also recalled that these practices constitute a violation of international law and of the
15:34resolutions of the UN Security Council.
15:41Meanwhile in France, social movements took to the streets of Paris in support of the
15:45Palestinian cause and in rejection of US President-elect Donald Trump's visit to the country to attend
15:51the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral.
15:54The rally was organized by leftist parties, trade unions and pro-Palestinian groups, who
15:58expressed their rejection of the Israeli genocide and the silence of the international community
16:03in the face of Israel's persistent attacks.
16:05They also expressed their support for the Palestinian people and the defense of their
16:09lands.
16:10In this regard, protesters said the US President-elect is an accomplice of the Israeli regime in
16:15the Middle East conflicts.
16:23So today, in fact, it's yet another demonstration.
16:26But what's special is the arrival of Donald Trump, who has been complicit in the genocide,
16:31much like the United States has been since the beginning of the creation of this rogue
16:35state that is occupying Palestine illegally.
16:43We are here to support Palestine, and in general against the support of our governments, for
16:47the genocidal regimes of Netanyahu in Israel, who supports an apartheid state in this region.
16:55The Syrian army has denounced a disinformation media campaign orchestrated by terrorist groups
17:01aimed at destabilizing the country.
17:03Going to a military source, armed terrorist organizations spread a fake report through
17:06websites and some communication channels about a supposed withdrawal of Syrian army units
17:11from all areas of rural Damascus.
17:14The alleged report aimed at creating panic among the Syrian population in those areas.
17:18The supposed withdrawal has been denied by the Syrian army, whose soldiers are ready
17:24to perform their duties and face a terrorist action.
17:32In this context, the general command of the army and the armed forces stress the importance
17:37of being aware of the extent of the plot against the Arab nation.
17:40Higher military authorities call not to relieve rumors and not to be carried away by them,
17:45and to have confidence in the brave Syrian army.
17:48In a statement, army commanders said the armed forces are strengthening their deployment
17:53lines across the Damascus countryside and the southern region to prevent any incidents
17:57as a result of the chaos that terrorist groups are trying to create through their platforms,
18:01tools, and sleeper cells in some areas.
18:08And in Qatar, through the weekend, Astana member countries are holding a two-day meeting
18:13to discuss mechanisms for a political and peaceful solution to the situation in Syria.
18:18Attending the meeting in Doha are Turkey's Foreign Affairs Minister Hakan Fidan, his
18:23Iranian counterpart Abbas Arakci, and Russia's Sergei Lavrov.
18:27The meeting was summed up in view of recent attacks by terrorist groups in northern Syria
18:31and the response of the Syrian army against armed groups in the provinces of Aleppo, Hama
18:36and Idlib.
18:37These foreign ministers are demanding an end to the attacks on Syrian territory while denouncing
18:42that the Israeli genocide in Gaza and the attacks against Syria are situations promoted
18:46by the United States to reassert its hegemony in the world.
